Old Stone Age – also known as the Paleolithic Age
- Paleo means “old” lithic means
“stone”
-began around 3,600,000 BCE and
Ended around 280,000 BCE
- included Australopithicus, Homo
Habalis, Homo Erectus
-Hunters and gatherers of food
- lamps: animal fat was put on a flat
Rock; a stick/dried grass was stuck
Into the fat and lit!
Middle Stone Age – also known as the Mesolithic Age
- meso means “middle” and “lithic”
means stone
- includes Neanderthal and CroMagnon Peoples
-began around 280,000 BCE and
Ended around 25,000 BCE
- invented fishing spear
- learned to fit a handle to the axe
- tamed (domesticated) goat, dog
New Stone Age
- Also known as the Neolithic Age
- Neo means new and lithic means
Stone
-started settling in villages
- learned how to farm
- started using copper for tools
And weapons
-kept herds of goats, pigs, sheep
-by 3,000 BCE using cattle, horses
And so on for transportation
-invented the wheel and axle
-started weaving cloth
- governments started being
formed
- lasted from about 10,000 to
2,000 BCE
