Andy Torrington BVMS, CertSAO, MRCVS
Andy graduated from Glasgow University Vet School in 1988 and spent three
years in Small animal practices in the West Midlands. He obtained his RCVS
Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 1990. He was Resident in Small
Animal Orthopaedics at the Royal Veterinary College 1991-1994 after which
he worked at a number of Referral Centres in the UK. In 1999 he established
Torrington Orthopaedics, a dedicated Small Animal Orthopaedic Referral
Service in West Yorkshire that has grown into a large Hospital with four
surgeons and 20 nurses. His main interests include the management of end
stage joint disease and prophylactic interventions to reduce the impact of
developmental joint diseases on the quality of life of our patients. He has
lectured all over the world on Joint surgeries for Hip, Stifle and Elbow.
Dr Thomas W. Maddox BVSc PhD CertVDI DipECVDI MRCVS
Tom graduated from the University of Bristol and worked for 4½ years in
mixed and small animal practice, achieving the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary
Diagnostic Imaging in 2007. He subsequently undertook a PhD on the
epidemiology of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in horses at the National Centre
for Zoonosis Research (University of Liverpool). Following completion of his
PhD, he became a resident in Diagnostic Imaging at Liverpool from 2010 to
2013. Tom started as a Lecturer in Diagnostic Imaging in July 2013 and
attained the European Diploma in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging in
September 2013. He was recognised as an RCVS specialist in Diagnostic
Imaging in February 2015. Clinically, he enjoys working with all the diagnostic
imaging modalities in mostly small, and occasionally large, animal patients
and he has research interests in advanced MRI and musculoskeletal imaging.
Lyn O’Byrne DipAVN(Med)RVN PGCertVetEd FHEA
Lynn qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1992 whilst working for the PDSA.
After 7 years in the charity sector she transferred to private practice and
subsequently spent several years in an out of hours emergency hospital.
Following this she moved into referral work at Torrington orthopaedics, where
she eventually became head nurse and during which time I obtained my
Diploma in advanced medical nursing. Lynn currently work as a specialist
Emergency and Critical Care nurse in the ICU at the teaching hospital of the
Royal Veterinary College.
Claire North BIPDT 1st Grade Hons
Claire has been training dogs and handlers for 10years, she holds a 1st grade
honours qualification from the British institute of Professional Dog Trainers
and is a member of the Kennel Club accredited instructor scheme* (*working
towards accreditation). Claire’s passion lies in helping owners harness the
natural drives and motivations of each dog as an individual, and finding an
appropriate way to channel this drive. She believes that every dog should
have a fulfilling job that they’re excited to do, and she is always excited to help
them find their dream job.
Jill Hall Grad PG Dip Vet Physiotherapy, Dip. Physiotherapy, ACPAT Cat A
Jill has worked in NHS for 25 years and had a particular interest in neurology,
neurosurgery and spinal injury. Over the past 15 years she has worked as an
MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Specialist Physiotherapist at Leeds Teaching
Hospitals and has developed MDT symptom management Clinic, support for
people newly diagnosed and rehabilitation services for people with MS. She
has led teaching programmes for physiotherapists, nurses and neuro
registrars on MS Symptom management. Jill has trained to Advanced Level in
Bobath Concept but uses an eclectic approach to treat animals and people.
She qualified with Grad PG Dip Vet Phyiotherapy from Liverpool University
and has a particular interest in applying the principles of movement analysis,
facilitation and management of altered tone to the dog with neurological
problems.
Hannah Michael MSc Veterinary Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons)
Physiotherapy, ACPAT Cat A
Hannah qualified as a Veterinary Physiotherapist in 2005 from the RVC. Since
then she has become increasingly interested in canine rehabilitation. She has
worked at Torrington Orthopaedics, an Orthopaedic Referral centre in West
Yorkshire, for over 6 years and has developed clinics within hydrotherapy
rehabilitation centres in the area. She enjoys guest lecturing and teaches on a
canine hydrotherapy module at Whitehouse Training as well as on the
residential schools at the Vet Physio course at Liverpool University.
