Dean’s Auxiliary Faculty Research & Travel Grant Program Proposal Submission Form (Rev. August 2015) Purpose of the Program: The purpose of the Dean’s Auxiliary Faculty Research & Travel Grant Program is to provide financial support to College of Human Sciences and Education faculty who are traveling to represent the College as a conference presenter (i.e., Travel Award) or for a university (IRB) approved research project related to their job position (i.e., Research Award). The intent of the Dean’s Auxiliary Faculty Research & Travel Grant Program is to supplement travel funds made available by the school of the faculty member, as well as those resources available through indirect cost recovery, sponsored projects, and other available faculty travel grant programs (e.g., LSU Office of Research and Economic Development, CHSE Dean’s Circle, and Campus Federal Credit Union). Because the fund is not intended to replace these existing resources, evidence must be provided that support from these sources has been sought, exhausted, and/or denied. Furthermore, this funding is intended to support travel that will lead to a grant proposal and/or a peer-reviewed publication within the next 12 months, with preference given to proposals with potential for both outcomes in support of the College’s Strategic Plan. Availability of Funds: At the discretion of the Dean, funding for the Dean’s Auxiliary Faculty Research & Travel Grant Program is allocated each fiscal year based on availability of funds. The total funds available will be divided roughly in thirds for each academic term (including the summer term). Typical awards will range from $500 to $1,500. Proposal Review and Award Selection: Proposals will be reviewed as they are submitted, and the Dean will make funding decisions with input from the chair of the CHSE Standing Committee on Research & Discovery. Priority consideration will be given to proposals identified as resulting in both a peer-reviewed publication and a grant proposal, followed by those resulting in a grant proposal alone, and finally those resulting in a peer-reviewed publication alone. Awards will be made each term until all money allocated for the fiscal year has been committed. Awarded funds must be spent before the end of the fiscal year in which the award was made (i.e., June 30th). Required Reporting: Within 12 months of completing the research or returning from travel, recipients will be required to submit to the CHSE Standing Committee on Research & Discovery a copy of a grant proposal submission, peer-reviewed manuscript submission, or both based upon the objectives stated in the proposal submission. Faculty who do not fulfil the required reporting may not be eligible for subsequent awards.
