Emergency Evacuation of Students during External Exams
All students will be briefed on the procedures and exit appropriate to the room that they
are in before the start of every external exam. Invigilators will be given a copy of the
correct procedure and exit(s) appropriate for the rooms they invigilate. There will be a copy
posted in each examination room.
All students will remain in the exam hall until instructed to leave by the invigilator, the
exams officer or a fire warden. Evacuation only begins once invigilators have had
confirmation that the alarm is genuine from the exams officer, a fire warden or a senior
member of staff. Practice evacuations will not be held when there are external exams going
on.
On confirmation students will be escorted to leave the building by the following exits:
 SPORTS HALL: Leave by the rear fire exits and meet in the MUGA. If this is unsafe or
becomes unsafe, students will be moved on to the playing fields according to wind
direction (if smoke is an issue).
 MAIN HALL: Leave by the front doors to the school, through Reception and wait on
the grass at the front of the school building (on the right as you face the car park).
 LECTURE THEATRE: Through the fire exit in the lecture theatre and assemble on the
paved area between the lecture theatre and Rooms 42 and 43 if it is safe to do so.
If any of the above becomes unsafe, students should be moved into the bus lanes/car park
under the direction of the fire wardens/fire officers.
To test and practice these procedures an emergency evacuation practice will be held during
the mock examination period.
