Dear Parents,
We are off to a great start, and Eagle football is right around the corner. Our homecoming game is
scheduled for Friday, September 11th. This year all four Florence zone schools will participate in
the homecoming parade on Thursday, September 10th. The theme this year is “Heroes,” and each
school is representing a different hero. Based on each school’s hero, a charity has been selected.
Florence Elementary has chosen firefighters as our highlighted hero and the Mississippi Burn
Camp Foundation as our charity. The Mississippi Burn Camp Foundation, an independent group of
citizen and fire service volunteers, provide a free summer camp for young burn survivors, ages 7
through 15. The camp begun in 1996, is funded entirely by donations and is staffed by volunteers,
including teachers, healthcare workers, nurses, firefighters and others. The camp is offered at no
charge to the participants and includes food, lodging, activity supplies, a camp T-shirt and a week
of fun and entertainment.
Our float will be firefighter themed. Mrs. Rushing will be taking donations in the foyer each
morning from now until September 10th for the MS Burn Camp Foundation. Each student who
donates $1.00 will get a paper fire truck with their name on it to be displayed outside their
teachers’ door! You may also make a donation of $10 or more to get your name on the “Golden
Giver” wall in the foyer. For students giving a donation of $20 or more will attend an ice cream
party. We look forward to a great school year, and we thank you so much for your support
towards assisting our donation efforts! We will be giving the money to a representative from the
MS Burn Camp Foundation at the homecoming football game. We would love to see you there!! GO
EAGLES!!!!
