BOD Officer Responsibilities List for positions:
Candidate QualificationsAn active committee member or committee (co)- chair who has proven themselves to be effective with
a particular task
Someone who has demonstrated leadership abilities
Someone who is: enthusiastic, energetic, eager, passionate about the chapter
Someone who is committed to critical care nursing and patient care
President Job Description:
•Time Commitment- 2 years (1 as president/1 as past president)
•Current AACN Member
Lead the annual meeting in which the board formulates the goals and budget.
•Reviews and evaluates the projects of each chapter committee to assure that they meet the
educational and professional purposes of the chapter and National AACN
•Follows the progress of each committee through completion
•Writes, review and revises chapter policies and procedures, as necessary
•Votes on all policies that affect the membership
•Formulates and approves the yearly chapter budget
•Formulates long-range plans for continued chapter development
*Communicates with reps for Educational dinners and assists with planning
*Assures AACN Website is updated
*Assures Newsletter is sent out quarterly
*Assures database is updated for communication
•Things to Do while Transitioning to the New Chair-
•Review Mission of Chapter
•Change bank signage to 3 people- treasurer, President & President Elect
•Review/revise Strategic Plan
•Update officers at AACN website
•Review/revise Chapter Charter Agreement and share with New officers
•Review/revise Chapter Governance Manual and share with New officers
•Review/revise Chapter Good standing Grid and share with New officers
•Plan for Chapter Leadership Development Workshop (LDW) on May 20th 2012 at NTI- Next May 19-24,
2012
•Get update of status of current projects, fiscal status etc…
•Chapter Charter Dues $120 (2011) are due 6/30th- end of FY
•Consider submitting our Chapter for “Chapter Awards” nominations open 7/1- deadline by 11/1
•New Officers to review:
•President Bootcamp under development 8/2011
*Treasurer and Elect Bootcamp,
•Quarterly financial reports- a how to session
•President and Elect Bootcamp ( Chapter Education Room)
•Website Inservice for Chapter officers
•Chapter Charter Agreement & Chapter Governance Manual and share with New officers
President –Elect Job Description:
•Time Commitment- 3years ( 1 as elect position/ 1 as president / 1 as past president)
•Current AACN Member
* Works collaboratively with the president through the term of office to provide for continuity of
leadership and a smooth transition of chapter leadership
•Performs presidential duties in the absence of the chapter president
•May serve as chair of a committee, such as strategic planning
•Performs duties, as assigned by the BOD and the president
•Nominee must demonstrate commitment to critical care nursing in the unit/hospital or region
*Preferred to have recently served as a BOD, friend to the chapter
Secretary Job Description-
•Time Commitment- 2 year ( 1 as secretary/ 1 as past secretary)
•Current AACN Member
*Insures that notice is given of membership meeting at least 7 days in advance
•Maintains all meeting minutes & official records of the chapter
•Takes minutes for chapter meetings, provides to President for review prior to next mtg
*Maintains a current committee and membership roster
•Facilitates open communication
•Assists committees with correspondence pertaining to their activities
*Assures Facebook acct updated
*Assures Yahoo email acct is updated
*Updates AACN National Chapter Website
Secretary-Elect Job description- Not a required board position
•Time Commitment- 3 year (1 as elect position/ 1 as secretary/ one as past treasurer)
•Current AACN Member
•Sits on the board of directors, and works closely with the Secretary to review and monitor all reports
•Assists with Secretary Duties
•Serves as assistant to the Secretary
•Works collaboratively with the treasurer through the year to provide a smooth transition
•Familiarizes self with record keeping
Treasurer Job Description•Time Commitment- 3 years (2 as treasurer/ 1 as past treasurer)
•Current AACN Member
*Reviews the past year’s chapter finances with the outgoing treasurer in order to prepare for the
coming year
*Assure Chapter Audit is completed by Aug 15th annually
•Maintains chapter financial records
•Received-Receipts-Cash receipts record-Deposit $$$
•Spent-Checks-Debit cards-Credit cards
•Development of Chapter Financial Workbook
•Prepares treasurer’s report for presentation at business/board meetings
•Prepares quarterly financial reports for submission to national AACN-Good Standing Grid
•Coordinates the financial aspects of registration at monthly meetings
•Collects chapter membership dues and maintains accurate records
•Formulates an annual budget for the fiscal year, in conjunction with the Board of Directors
•Prepares an annual financial statement of chapter finances for publication in the newsletter

Treasurer-Elect Job description- Not a required board position
•Time Commitment- 3 year (1 as elect position/ 1 as treasurer/ one as past treasurer)
•Current AACN Member
*Sits on the board of directors, and works closely with the Treasurer to review and monitor all financial resources in accordance
with AACN’s policies
•Attends Financial Oversight meetings
•Serves as assistant to the treasurer
•Works collaboratively with the treasurer through the year to provide a smooth transition
•Familiarizes self with the bylaws and financial record keeping
•Familiarizes self with the financial reporting mechanism to AACN
Board Member At Large- 1 year commitment
*Current AACN Member
*Serves as a voice for the needs of the NCF critical care nurse members
•Serves as a liaison with the NCF members and officers
•May serve a subcommittee leader or member
*Attends 50% of the BOD meetings
*Attends educational dinners/events to assist
•Performs duties, as assigned by the president
•Nominee must demonstrate commitment to critical care nursing in the unit/hospital or region
