I, Jane Wong, the director of St. Dunstan School After-school Chinese Program would like to welcome all students and to introduce our program to you.
I have been in the educational field for nearly thirty years and have experiences of establishing, managing, and teaching in after-school Chinese program in three Bay area schools.
Our mission is to provide a high quality Chinese language education to expand students’ interest in and appreciation for Chinese language and culture; enable the students to “learn in an Entertaining and
Educational Environment”. We adhere to the teaching principle of “Edutainment” for an Easy and Fun atmosphere.
Our program is a comprehensive language development program that equips children to speak, listen, read and write Chinese. Our experienced teachers incorporate songs, stories, fun games, and interactive activities in order to keep students engaged in learning Chinese language and culture. Such as:
1) An introduction to Traditional Chinese Culture and Festivals by telling stories and doing activities:
The Chinese New Year The students will receive the “Li Shi” (Lucky Money) and taste the special traditional foods for the Chinese New Year;
The Lantern Festival (also as The Yuan Xiao Festival and Chinese Valentine’s Day) The students will learn how to make and taste Sweet dumplings (Tang Yuan);
Also The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (Duan Wu Festival); The Autumn Festival (Moon cake Festival) and etc……
2) A different theme for oral conversation will be practiced every month :
Greetings for birthday and Chinese New Year…, Politeness phrase, a form of address to the family members of both in mother and father’s side, Weather, Transportation and etc……
3) We will nominate and train our students to participate in the poetry recitation and calligraphy competition which happens every year in San Francisco.
To ensure our teaching quality year round “fun” quizzes will be followed by a final examination at the end of semester. We will send out a monthly communication and report lot for the parents to review the students’ progress.
Hope to see you soon at the After-school program; enjoy learning Chinese Language and Culture in
“Edutainment”, Easy and Fun Atmosphere, at your own school: St. Dunstan Catholic School.
