Students will focus on the use of primary and secondary sources to gather evidence to answer questions about the past and to understand historical and heritage issues. Students will become confident in the use of historical skills such as dating, timelines and source analysis. Students will have the opportunity to complete an Archaeological dig using the knowledge that they gain. Term 2: Ancient Society (Egypt) Students will explore Ancient Egyptian society in depth analyzing such features as the origins of the society and period, daily life in Egyptian society, rights and freedoms and values and traditions. Students will ask the following questions during their studies of Ancient Egypt: What can we learn about societies and civilizations of the past? What have been the legacies of past civilizations and societies? 2: Term 1 and 2 Classwork Semester 2 Topics Term 3: Introductory Skills and World Heritage Sites Students will be given an introduction to the discipline of Geography and the nature of geographical inquiry. They will learn to distinguish physical elements of the environment from the human ones. Students will then begin to develop geographical skills that will be imperative to their studies. These skills include global representation using maps, the importance and use of using longitude and latitude and the development of fieldwork skills. Students will also focus on World Heritage Sites and their increasing importance throughout the world. Term 4: Biomes (Deserts and Wetlands) Students will gain an understanding of the geographical processes that form and transform global environments, and human interaction with the environment. This topic will focus on a variety of natural environments and where they can be found. Students will then focus on one environment from a list including coasts, coral reefs, tundra, deserts and rivers. They will look at how this environment was formed and also threats that this environment may be faced with presently or in the future. 1: Topic test.
