Lesson Focus & Description:
The kitchen plays central role in the home. Throughout history, consumers have been concerned with a number issues related to kitchens, including: keeping clean, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, saving time, and adopting new technologies. However, today’s consumers are more concerned with sustainability as it relates to purchases and behaviors. This program looks at kitchens of the past with regard to future sustainability and encourages learning through reading, listening, and discussion.
Program objectives:
After completing this program, participants should understand:
Improved kitchen technology and consumer behavior play a dual role in energy conservation
There are simple low and no-cost actions that will reduce energy use in the kitchen
How to determine appliance energy usage

Suggested Activities:
PowerPoint has a script; there are two videos embedded in the PowerPoint; if possible, you may do a demonstration with an induction burner.
Preparation :
Please prepare for your program by doing the following activities:
Review the lesson carefully. Read post-program evaluation carefully and make certain you cover all of the points during the program, including true/false, behavior change, and confidence measures.

Lesson Leaders: Following the lesson, please gather the completed evaluations and return them to your County OSU Extension Center no less than one week after lesson.
