THE CLASSROOM EXCHANGE
INT. CLASSROOM – DAY
(MIKE is an eighth grade student at OLHMS. He is sitting at his table and is
suppose to be listening to MRS. WILLIAMS, a middle age Media Production
teacher who is lecturing the class. MIKE takes his pen and throws it across the
room. MRS. WILLIAMS approaches MIKE at his desk.)
MRS. WILLIAMS
Today we will learn how to write a script for a film project.
(MIKE throws his pen across the room and laughs.)
MIKE
Launches!
(MRS. WILLIAMS walks towards MIKE’S desk.)
MRS.WILLIAMS
Why did you throw that pen? You could have hurt SARA.
(MIKE leans back on his chair, smiling at SARA, who sits across from him.)
MIKE
Cause I felt like it. Like I didn’t hit her. So what’s your problem?
MRS. WILLIAMS
You need to change your attitude with me. I will write up a SIR for you causing a
safety problem in my class.
(MIKE looks around the room, chuckles and stands up and is face-to-face with
MRS. WILLIAMS)
MIKE
Why you always up in my business, woman. I’ll write you up!
(MRS. WILLIAMS steps back from MIKE and points her finger towards the door.)
MRS. WILLIAMS
Mike, I want you to go to the office and see Mr. Mitchell, the Dean.
(MIKE walks back to his desk and sits down.)
MIKE
I’m not going anywhere. You can’t make me!
(MRS. WILLIAMS walks to the phone, picks up the receiver and dials Mr.
Mitchell’s number.)
MRS. WILLIAMS
Mr. Mitchell, I have a student who is being disrespectful and refuses to leave my
classroom. Could you please come up to my room and escort him to your office?
MR. MITCHELL (O/S)
I am dealing with a few students in my office and can’t come up to your room
right now. Tell Mike that he has a choice to either come to my office or he will be
suspended from school for five days.
(MRS. WILLIAMS hangs up the phone and walks over to MIKE’S desk. She
leans over him.)
MRS. WILLIAMS
Mr. Mitchell wants you to either go down to his office or you will be suspended for
five days. Decide if it is his office or home for five days!
(MIKE gets up from his desk, grabs his books and starts walking towards the
door.)
MIKE
I’ll take the five day vacation because any day away from you is a real vacation!
(MIKE looks at the rest of the class.)
MIKE
Peace out doggs!
(MIKE walks out of the classroom.)
