THE CLASSROOM EXCHANGE INT. CLASSROOM – DAY (MIKE is an eighth grade student at OLHMS. He is sitting at his table and is suppose to be listening to MRS. WILLIAMS, a middle age Media Production teacher who is lecturing the class. MIKE takes his pen and throws it across the room. MRS. WILLIAMS approaches MIKE at his desk.) MRS. WILLIAMS Today we will learn how to write a script for a film project. (MIKE throws his pen across the room and laughs.) MIKE Launches! (MRS. WILLIAMS walks towards MIKE’S desk.) MRS.WILLIAMS Why did you throw that pen? You could have hurt SARA. (MIKE leans back on his chair, smiling at SARA, who sits across from him.) MIKE Cause I felt like it. Like I didn’t hit her. So what’s your problem? MRS. WILLIAMS You need to change your attitude with me. I will write up a SIR for you causing a safety problem in my class. (MIKE looks around the room, chuckles and stands up and is face-to-face with MRS. WILLIAMS) MIKE Why you always up in my business, woman. I’ll write you up! (MRS. WILLIAMS steps back from MIKE and points her finger towards the door.) MRS. WILLIAMS Mike, I want you to go to the office and see Mr. Mitchell, the Dean. (MIKE walks back to his desk and sits down.) MIKE I’m not going anywhere. You can’t make me! (MRS. WILLIAMS walks to the phone, picks up the receiver and dials Mr. Mitchell’s number.) MRS. WILLIAMS Mr. Mitchell, I have a student who is being disrespectful and refuses to leave my classroom. Could you please come up to my room and escort him to your office? MR. MITCHELL (O/S) I am dealing with a few students in my office and can’t come up to your room right now. Tell Mike that he has a choice to either come to my office or he will be suspended from school for five days. (MRS. WILLIAMS hangs up the phone and walks over to MIKE’S desk. She leans over him.) MRS. WILLIAMS Mr. Mitchell wants you to either go down to his office or you will be suspended for five days. Decide if it is his office or home for five days! (MIKE gets up from his desk, grabs his books and starts walking towards the door.) MIKE I’ll take the five day vacation because any day away from you is a real vacation!
