Reading
Reading Material: alphabet worksheet
Standard(s): K.RF.1.d. recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Plan: The tutor will go over the alphabet letters with the student. The tutor will use alphabet worksheets to
help Samantha practice recognizing alphabet letters. Ex: one worksheet will be on the letter A. There will be a
place for Samantha to write out the letter A. There will also be a picture of something that begins with the
letter A, as well as a word that begins with the letter A. Samantha will have to trace the word.
Writing
Standard(s): K.W.3. Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose opinion pieces in which
they tell a reader the topic or the name of the book they are writing about and state an opinion or preference
about the topic or book (e.g., My favorite book is . . .).
Plan: Samantha will draw a picture of her favorite princess. Once Samantha has finished drawing her favorite
princess, the tutor will ask Samantha to share why the princess is her favorite princess. (i.e. Why is ________
your favorite princess? Why do you like _______? Is _________ nice to her friends?) The tutor will assist
Samantha in writing the name of her favorite princess.
Activity
Standard(s): K.RF.1.d. recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Plan: Samantha will play Alphabet Floor Dominoes using a premade domino set. The student will match
capital letters with lowercase letters. The game is basic dominoes, but with letters and the player that is left
without dominoes wins the game. It is recommended that the tutor has a chart for the student to guide the
game if she gets stuck on a letter combination.
Alternate Plan/Differentiation: If the activity is too difficult, the student will use the Alphabet chart to help them with
the game. If it is too easy, the tutor will ask the student to name three words that begin with that letter. The tutor can
give specific categories they would like the answer to be in.
