Amesbury + Truth Hardware Position: 2nd Shift Assembly Supervisor Job Purpose The incumbent will develop team members to be a high performing group in waste elimination, process flow improvements, and visual management. The incumbent will have full responsibility for training, instructing, coaching, motivating, and evaluating employee performance. The incumbent is also responsible for determining staffing levels and hiring additional resources. The incumbent is responsible for terminating nonperforming employees. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Carries out routine departmental operations and keeps the Business Unit Manager informed of critical department issues, such as; equipment problems, process problems, and employee performance issues. 2. Ensures timely completion of work, advises supervisor of status and determines working overtime and additional staffing needs or reductions. 3. Provides coaching, leadership, development, discipline, training and direction to personnel under the position holder’s responsibility; including meaningful and timely review of performance and effective wage administration. Keeps the Business Unit Manager informed, and addresses complaints and grievances. 4. Acts as a resource and support to department employees, resolves problems, answers questions, trains and instructs on job requirements, procedures/methods and department/company operations. 5. Maintains the highest level of safety and housekeeping throughout the area of responsibility so the health and welfare of personnel is protected. Certification to administer first aid is required. Wearing a respirator is required when handling specific chemicals. 6. Monitors and/or assists with maintaining, testing, checking, adding or replacing chemicals as required for the coating process and waste system. Monitors hazardous waste containers and waste treatment to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. 7. Ensures all department paperwork is completed and maintained by reviewing and monitoring the accuracy of information recorded. 8. Performs other job related duties assigned or requested. Direction of Others Provides work direction to Leads to ensure production and company goals are met. Determines salary issues, evaluates employee performance and addresses complaints and grievances. The incumbent is expected to refer only exceptional problems to the Business Unit Manager. Instructions are normally given in terms of general goals to be achieved; leaving analysis, choice of means, scheduling, etc. is left to the incumbent. Incumbent works from established methods/procedures and is required to keep the Business Unit Manager informed of value stream performance. Problem Solving and Decision Making Exercises judgment in determining job priorities and determines when overtime must be worked to meet deadlines. Determines if processes are within specifications, equipment is operating correctly and takes corrective action to produce quality parts and meet quality standards. Recognizes dangerous methods, procedures, conditions and take corrective action to eliminate. Errors in judgment regarding the processes, quality of parts, and production of product would cause major costs in delivery of product to meet customer needs. Relations with Others Working as a team is required as well as maintaining good interpersonal skills and communication ability. Works with department team members, Team Leaders, Supervisors, and personnel from other manufacturing support teams. The incumbent would be expected to participate in small group activities such as task teams, lead monthly safety meetings, Kaizen events, and other improvement efforts. Equipment Operated Personal computer, BPCS, and Microsoft Office Working Conditions and Hazards Exposed to hazards of equipment operation and chemical hazards associated with the coating and waste system processes. Required safety equipment consists of safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, or other required PPE. Physical Effort Required Requires working in a variety of positions; bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, walking, standing, lifting, climbing of stairs and ladders. Requires moderate to heavy lifting and movement of containers and materials. Learning Period To learn the basics of the job requires one year. To perform all aspects of the position and be able to make decisions with minimal supervision regarding the processes/equipment, would require two years. Qualifications Training and Experience: High school or GED. Respirator training is required when working with specific chemicals as well as completion of CPR/First Aid certification. Achievement of certified operator classification is required. The incumbent must be able to determine subtle shifts in color. Must have the ability to read and understand instructions/procedures with a high degree of accuracy in record keeping, charting, testing and analysis. The incumbent must be able to work independently, interact and communicate effectively, prioritize tasks, make decisions, must be flexible, use time efficiently, be well organized and have the ability to provide work direction, feedback, and motivation to employees.
