City of Pascagoula Contact: Robin Wood 603 Watts Avenue Pascagoula, MS 39567 228 372-6888 News Release PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR STORMY WEEKEND IN PASCAGOULA Pascagoula, MS; August 8, 2013: Pascagoula crews are busy making preparations for the expected tropical wave approaching the MS Gulf Coast. Crews will remain on duty for the duration of the storm, ready to address any problems that should arise. Although the system may be weak when it makes landfall, City Officials aim to be ready for whatever comes their way. Storm water preparation efforts currently underway include removing any obstructions in ditches that may have accumulated since they were last cleaned. Due to ongoing maintenance, it is not expected that there will be any significant issues with debris accumulation. Storm drain inlets are also being cleared. Job sites where excavation has occurred are being secured to prevent erosion into those storm drains. City officials do not anticipate flooding of homes from storm surge; however, there may be isolated occurrences of flooded homes if there is significant rainfall. The unusually high tides could inhibit storm water drainage into the gulf. Depending on the amount and intensity of rainfall, there could be street flooding. City Officials are urging motorists use extreme caution, or to simply stay off the streets unless travel is absolutely necessary.
