Assessment of the Sexual Behavior Among College Students
Problem
1.
The purpose of this assessment is to assess the prevalence of unprotected sexual activity among college students living both on and off campus.
Refining the Problem
2.
The population of this assessment contains 100 college students. This population contains 48 males and 52 females between the ages of 17 and 25. Of this population,
60% of the students are commuters and 40% live on campus here at Rowan
University. This population contains 83 sexually active individuals and 17 individuals that are not sexually active.
3.
I will assess these results by comparing results based off of surveys. This will be assessed and graded after evaluating the results. My rating scale will be graded, and then I will set a proposal for where I believe we should be in a given time frame through repeating the survey process. Through the initial assessment, we will be able to see what we need to do as a whole to help students make better decisions in regards to their sexual health. I will be comparing the number of people that are sexually active against the number of people who perform unprotected sexual activity.
4.
I chose to do research on this population and prevalence of sexual activity because it is a big problem among college students. Students come to college to meet new friends and to engage in these types of activities with their friends but we need to make sure that they are engaging safely. STD’s on a college campus are becoming more and more prevalent and students are the key to dropping this significance through safer sexual activity. If we do not take control of this situation as a whole,
STD’s could spread like wildfire on campus; this is an avoidable occurrence.
Instrumentation and Methodology
5.
I am going to be rating this colleges sexual behavior based on an A, B, C, D, F scale
(similar to a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 scale but with letters) with A being the best and F being the worst. Based on the knowledge of me and the people who performed this research, we will systematically place a grade on this college and then develop a formula and time span (1-2 years) to reevaluate this school and begin grading again. If there is no change, we did not do our best to educate and help these students to help themselves to perform safer sexual activity.
6.
The administrators of this test will need to know how this grading scale works. It is pretty much backwards in regards to a grading scale used in school because the least
Analysis of Results
7.
The results of the rating scale will be used by developing a plan on how to get better results the next time around. The initial survey will be taken and then about one and a half to two years later we will administer the surveys again to see if we have made any improvement over time. A passing grade of this assessment will be a B, but we want to get them numbers down to 10% so that we can lower the prevalence of STD’s on campus. This was a summative assessment because it deals with giving a particular grade to a certain population. I am simply taking results from surveys and grading them.
Results
Tyler Burlingame
Assessment of the Sexual Behavior Among College Students amount of unprotected sexual activity the better. The grading scale will work like this. For the school to receive an A, they will need less than or equal to 10% of their sample population to have said they perform unprotect sexual activity. For a school to receive a B they will need 11% to 25% of their students to report irresponsible sexual activity. For a school to receive a C, they will need 26% to 35% of their students to have reported irresponsible sexual activity. For a school to receive a D, they will need
36% to 50% of their students to report irresponsible sexual activity. Anything greater than 50% will result in a F.

Based upon this scale and the data provided above, Rowan University was grade an F. The 100 students used as a basis during this survey stated that 60% of them have performed unprotect sex in the past year and 32% stated that they do it sometimes and 13% stated that they perform these activities always.
