Dear Parents,
In the Junior School we are continuing to drive our curriculum forward to provide a
variety of learning experiences for our pupils. We are lucky enough to have our own
designated Junior kitchen complete with child-friendly utensils and low-level work
surfaces. All cookery lessons will be supervised by at least two members of staff and
no pupils will be allowed to use the ovens. I will be leading the cooking and I hold a
Level 2 Health and Hygiene qualification.
For the first 4 weeks pupils from half of Year 6 will be cooking from 8.45am on a
Wednesday morning (Group 1) and the remaining half will be cooking at the same
time on a Thursday morning (Group 2). The last session will be everyone together on
Wednesday 7th October.

Your child will also need a named cookery apron and a named lidded container each
week, suitable for bringing food home. This could be the same container used to
bring ingredients into school. If anyone could bring an empty, cleaned jam jar in for
week 1, I would be very grateful.
Although the school has a list of food allergies, please ensure this is up to date with
the Junior Office. The Junior DT/Cookery room is a ‘nut-free’ environment.
I am hoping that the children really enjoy cooking and that you enjoy tasting what
they have made. If you have difficulty bringing in any of the ingredients, please don’t
worry. There will always be ingredients spare so everyone can still cook. See me, or
leave me a message with the Junior Office and I will get back to you, if you have any
questions.
Yours sincerely,
Mrs J Foreman
