RELEASE OF COSTING OF ELECTION COMMITMENT
Pursuant to section 6.45 of the 2014 Guidelines on the Caretaker Conventions the Department of
Treasury and Finance (DTF) today released the costing of the following election commitment of the
Liberal National Coalition Party of Victoria:
Coalition 022 – Commitments to a stronger Aboriginal Victoria
The election policy costing was completed in accordance with DTF’s Guidelines for managing
requests from a political party for costing of its own policies (the policy costing guidelines) available
at: www.dtf.vic.gov.au/election2014.
The completed costing is attached to this media release.

Provide $1 million for a grants program to protect and promote
Aboriginal history and cultural heritage.
Protecting Aboriginal Culture and Heritage by providing up to $12
million for Registered Aboriginal Parties.
Continue funding for Reconciliation Victoria.
Provide additional funding to support newly established Victorian
Aboriginal Economic Board to work with industries and employers to
review employment opportunities for Aboriginal Victorians and advise
on addressing any identified barriers.

DTF considers the costs to be a reasonable estimate based
on the following:
Grants and Commemoration program - The program can be
scaled to fit within the proposed budget.
Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs) - The program can be
scaled to fit within the proposed budget.
Reconciliation Victoria - The estimate is consistent with
previous funding provided for Reconciliation Victoria as part
of the 2011-12 Budget.
Aboriginal Economic Strategy - The program can be scaled to fit within
the proposed budget.

The Coalition has included an estimate for 2018-19 of $5.135 million. DTF has undertaken a
costing of this figure and considers $5.135 million to be a reasonable estimate for 2018-19 and
notes that this would bring the total estimated cost of the proposal to $15.740 million over five
years.
