<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/adverthammy.jpg> Founded in 1892,
the Hamilton Watch Company of Lancaster, PA would not officially start
producing watches until 1894. Its first chosen name was the “Columbian Watch
Co.” but this had already been copyrighted by the Waterbury Company. The name
<b>Hamilton</b> was then chosen - a tribute to Lancaster’s founding father, Mr.
Andrew Hamilton, a Scottish-born attorney who was instrumental in the town’s
growth.<p>By 1908 Hamilton was producing a lady’s pendant (convertible) watch
and, following the USA’s entry into WWI, a small line of military style wire lug
trench watches were available for men. Hamilton never looked back, arguably
producing the highest quality American made watches from the 1920s through
the 1960s.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following <i>CRANSTON</i> model
from the Hamilton firm, a nicely sculpted, mid-century modern timepiece that
was first introduced in 1952 (also the year this example dates to). This 10kt
Yellow Gold filled wristwatch is in excellent condition and features a handsome
black enamel dial with 18k solid gold numerals and hour markers.<p>Triplesigned, it measures <b>37mm end to end and 22.5mm in width</b> (24mm with
winding crown). This works out to be just shy of 1-1/2 inches in length by 7/8 of
an inch wide, not counting the crown. It is powered by its original and highergrade <b>19 jewel</b>, manual wind mechanism that has been <b>fully
serviced</b> by my watchmaker David to ensure it it winds and sets smoothly
while keeping <b>accurate time</b>.<p>The black enamel finished dial has been
professionally restored and is in pristine condition. It features a 60 minute outer
track border, applied <b>18kt Solid Gold</b> numbers and diamond-shaped hour
indicators, original <I>Lance-style</I> gold metal hands and a recessed subseconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and “sweep” gold seconds hand.
Signed <b>HAMILTON</b> below the 12. <p>What I really like about this model
(and the Hamilton Boulton) is the round sub dial – most rectangular or square
watches would have a matching shaped seconds dial but making it “round” like
we see here truly adds a nice contrast.<p>The <b>solid glass</b> crystal is in
flawless condition, new old stock and made specifically for the Cranston model
(removed in some photos to minimize glare). The <b>10 Karat Yellow Gold
filled</b> case is a beauty, finely sculpted and featuring “swooping” lugs. It is in
excellent condition with no wear or brassing, perhaps a few small scratches. The
matching gold finish winding crown is not marked but I strongly believe it to be
original. It is in excellent order and winds and sets smoothly.<p>Turning the
watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent condition with no wear or
engravings – perhaps a few light scratches. It is stamped “HAMILTON” at one
edge and “10kt Gold Filled” on the opposite side. Inside I find a beautiful Nineteen
Jewel movement (with fancy Geneva Striping) that is signed <b>Hamilton – USA –
19 Jewels – [Grade] 753</b> with serial number 27226F. This serial number (as it
related to the grade 753) dates the watch to 1952. The inside case lid is signed
<I> Cranston - Hamilton W. Co., Lancaster PA - 10K Gold Filled</I> with reference
number and case maker name (Star Watch Case Co.) below.<p>This fine watch
has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it
<b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time</b>. It comes fitted on
a new and high quality <b>17 black crocodile (grain) calf leather strap</b> with
matching gold buckle, ready to wear and enjoy. All in all an excellent, ready to
wear mid 20th century timepiece from America’s best wristwatch company – as
good (and often better) quality than the well-known Swiss firms (such as Longines
or Omega) of its day.<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been

<img

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertwittnauer.jpg> Founded by
Swiss immigrant Albert Wittnauer in New York City, the Wittnauer Watch
Company. became an official business in 1880, when the brand was “officially”
introduced. Albert, along with his brother Louis (and later Emile) imported
complete watches or just mechanisms from its Geneva, Switzerland factory. In
1889 the company ran its very first advertisement. Appearing in the twentieth
anniversary issue of the Jewelers’ Weekly, the ad notes that the company sold
both “plain and complicated” watches, suggesting that it was a source for
chronographs and repeating watches.<p>By the 20th century they were firmly
established as providing watches, chronometers and military timing devices to the
military, famed early explorers and the general public, and are on record for
producing the first waterproof watch called the “<b>All Proof</b>” in 1918. Long
associated with the Longines Watch Co. via a US partnership the firm is now
owned by Bulova, once a great competitor.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the
following vintage Wittnauer timepiece, an excellent and ORIGINAL men’s 10kt
White Gold filled <b>All Proof 1200</b> (“Diamond Aristocrat” Model 1076) that
dates to ca 1960. This hermetic case watch is in <u>original</u> and immaculate
shape, only the deBeer Europa band is new. Please note the genuine diamond
settings on the dial, complemented by the faceted silver steel outer ring. When
you add a fancy “notched” bezel to the picture you get one unique and amazing
timepiece.<p> When first introduced, both the Longines and Wittnauer All Proof
1200 watches were marketed as being extra thin and hermetically-sealed, making
them better protected than most watches against common watch
hazards.<p>Quadruple-signed, this watch measures <b>39mm lug tip to lug tip
and 33.5mm in width</b> (35.5mm with original Wittnauer-signed steel winding
crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by 1-5/16 inches wide,
not including the original crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, manual
wind Wittnauer <b>Revue 76/3G</b> caliber mechanism, the “Revue” series
being Wittnauer’s finest. It has been <b>fully serviced</b> by my skilled
watchmaker David prior to auction to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while
keeping accurate time.<p>The 100% original silver enamel dial is in pristine
condition – untouched since it left the factory and without any flaws. It features a
silver steel faceted outer track with projecting hour markers, genuine diamond
markers in rhodium settings and original silver steel Baton-style hands. As this is a
“dress” watch where elegance is the priority it lacks a sub-seconds or sweep
seconds hand. Signed <b>WITTNAUER</b> below the 12 and further signed
<b>SWISS</b> at the base of the dial.<p>The original hardened acrylic crystal is in
excellent, clear condition. The one-piece case (with removable bezel ring) is
<b>10 Karat White Gold Filled</b> and in excellent condition, truly immaculate
folks and it has never been polished. The matching color winding crown (with
male/female two-piece stem for movement removal) is stamped with the
Wittnauer trademark and in excellent shape, winding and setting
smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over, I see that the back of the case is in excellent
PLUS condition with absolutely no wear or engravings. It is stamped <b>USE ALL
PROOF WRENCH </B> and also <b>1200</b>. Being a one-piece case you access
the mechanism by removing the crystal and then the dial/mechanism. The clean,
three finger bridge mechanism is signed <b>Wittnauer Watch Co. Inc., Swiss
[Caliber] 76/3G Revue – Seventeen 17 Jewels, AXA</b>. The inside of the case is
stamped <i>[Model] 1076 – Longines Wittnauer Watch Co., Inc., New York,
Geneva, Montreal – S&W – 10K Gold Filled - 919445</i>. The initials “S&W” stand
for Schwab & Wuischpard, prominent American case makers (still in business
today as Wuishpard).<p>This watch has been fully serviced (disassembled,
cleaned, oiled and regulated) to ensure it <b>winds and sets smoothly while
keeping accurate time</b>. It comes fitted on a <b>new 18mm black deBeer Paris
ostrich grain hand crafted calf leather Swiss strap with matching chrome steel
buckle</b>. All in all a close to NEW OLD STOCK condition watch where only the
band is new – I think you’re going to really like this “Diamond Aristocrat” model!

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertelgin.jpg> My longtime
favorite U.S. watch company is the <I>Elgin National Watch Company</I>, a
prolific American firm established in 1864 on 35 acres of land donated by the City
of Elgin, Illinois. It was a strategic location, right next to the Galena and Chicago
Union Railroad, one of the busiest railways into Chicago, and the Elgin factory
would become the focal point of the town.<p>By 1867 the first watch was
marketed for sale, retailing for $115 (an amazing sum in today’s dollars) and Elgin
was soon competing head-on with its chief competitor, Waltham, who (ironically)
were instrumental in forming Elgin, as two of the original organizers were P.S.
Bartlett and D.G. Currier, previously of Waltham firm. Bartlett and Currier would
later join the Illinois Watch Co. of Springfield.<p>If you have been looking for a
ladies Art Deco Tank style watch that is a bit “different” from the rest I think you
might be interested in the following model. It is a ladies <b>doctors dial </b> (or
nurses) model from 1937, introduced at the same time as the men’s <I>Dr.
William Osler</I> model and very similar in design (albeit smaller). William Osler
was a famed Canadian physician and one of the "Big Four" founding professors at Johns
Hopkins Hospital as the first Professor of Medicine and founder of the Medical Service there.<p>This
fully signed timepiece is in excellent condition, its 10kt Yellow Gold filled wire lug
case measuring <b>30mm lug tip to lug tip and 17mm in width</b> (18.5mm with
original crown). This works out to be 1-3/16 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide
and it is attached to a new old stock black cord vintage bracelet that will fit a wrist
up to 7 inches in size (I can easily adjust this as well, just let me know the length
you need). It is powered by its original and higher-grade 15 jewel, manual wind
mechanism that has been <b>fully serviced</b> by my trusted watchmaker David,
ensuring it is running well and keeping <u>accurate</u> time.<p>The enamel
finished dial is in flawless condition – absolutely pristine. It has been
professionally restored to its correct original status. Features include a fine black
lined outer border, round 60 second track prominently in the center, raised gold
Arabic numerals, original gold metal hands and original <b>blue steel</b> ‘sweep’
seconds hand with RED arrow tip. Signed <b>ELGIN</b> below the 60 second
marker. <p>The solid <b>glass</b> crystal is in mint condition. The case is <b>10
Karat Yellow Gold Filled</b> and in excellent order, complete with <u>finely
engraved panels</u> at all four corners of the bezel. The matching and original
gold winding crown is in <b>excellent</b> shape and operates
smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in great overall
condition, a touch of wear at the bezel corners but it shows very nicely and has no
personal engravings. It is stamped “ELGIN 10K GOLD FILLED” at one edge (there is
a small person swinging a hammer if you look closely!). Peeking inside I find a
higher-grade, triplex style Fifteen Jewel manual wind movement signed <b>ELGIN
USA – 15 JEWELS</B> with serial number 37,660,866– dating this watch to 1937
as per company production records. The inside case lid is signed <I>Cased and
Timed by Elgin National Watch Co. – 10K Gold Filled – Illinois Watch Case Co.,
Elgin</I> with case reference number below. <p>This watch has been
disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it <b>winds and sets
smoothly while keeping accurate time</b>. It is fitted on a new old stock (vintage,
never worn) black cord bracelet and is attached to the watch with what appears
to be its original yellow gold filled holders, complete with engraved detailing. The
current overall length will fit a wrist up to 7 inches but if you need it longer (or
shorter) just let me know. All in all a timepiece that you can enjoy owning and
wearing while it steadily increases in value, more fun than investing in mutual
funds!<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertlongines2.jpg> Founded by
Ernest Francillon and Auguste Agassiz in the year 1832, the <i>Longines Watch Co.
of Switzerland</i> was established in the “Long Meadows” (translated: Longines)
near the town of St. Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their
wristwatches are among the <b>best in the world</b>, on par with the “big
boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.<p>I
am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, a men’s
<b>sculpted</b> case, Tank form model that dates to ca 1946. This watch is
<b>14kt Solid Yellow Gold</b> and in excellent condition inside and out, my
photos don’t do it justice as the sculptural qualities of the case made it hard to
photograph! <p>Triple-signed, it measures <b>38.5mm lug tip to lug tip and
23.5mm in width</b> (25.5mm with winding crown). This works out to be 1-1/2
inches long by 1 inch wide, including the crown. It is powered by its original 17
jewel, 9L caliber manual wind Longines mechanism that has been <b>fully
serviced</b> by my trusted watchmaker David prior to auction, ensuring it winds
and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.<p>The ivory color, matte enamel
finished dial is in flawless condition, professionally restored to its correct, original
status. It features raised gold “dot” hour markers, black enamel painted Breguet
style numerals, 60 minute outer track border, gold metal Leaf-style hands and a
recessed, rectangular seconds dial with 60 second outer track and ‘sweep’ gold
seconds hand. Signed <b>LONGINES</b> below the 12 and <b>SWISS</B> at the
base of the dial.<p>The gently curved (horizontally) acrylic crystal is in excellent
condition, a later replacement. The case is a two-piece design that is<b> 14 Karat
Solid Yellow Gold</b> and it is in excellent PLUS condition, complete with fancy
cutaway lugs and scooped case sides. The unmarked, gold finished winding
crown, a later addition, is in excellent order as well, operating smoothly.
<p>Turning the watch over I find that the back lid is in excellent shape with
absolutely no wear or engravings, past or present. It is stamped <b>14K
GOLD</B> at one edge. Taking a look inside I find a fully serviced manual wind
mechanism, signed <b>Longines Watch Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels

watch to 1946 – possibly early 1947. The inside case is stamped <i>Longines –

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertgruen2.jpg> In its glory years
from the 1920s through the 1950s, the <I>Gruen Watch Company of USA &
Switzerland</I> was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even
collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from
its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA
than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and
Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and
the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland
(their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as
<b>Rolex Gruen</b> in Europe, but the Great Depression (and more urgent
matters) prevented this.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage
men’s model from the Gruen firm, a 420SS caliber timepiece that dates to ca
1947. This stainless steel “Guildite” model shares the same mechanism as the Pan
American models of the same period and it features a military (or doctors) style
dial. Unlike the Pan Am model, it does not have the 24 hour inner track.<p>Triplesigned for Gruen, this “Veri-Thin Precision” model measures <b>39mm lug tip to
lug tip and 32mm in width</b> (34mm with unmarked, original domed steel
crown). In inches this works out to be just over 1-1/2” in total length by 1-1/4”
wide, not including the crown. Its original 17 jewel, 420SS (Sweep Seconds)
caliber mechanism has been <b>fully serviced</b> to ensure it keeps accurate
time.<p>The silver enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally
restored to its correct status. It features a 60 second outer track border
(calibrated to 1/5 of a second for precision), raised gold “dot” hour markers and
luminous green Arabic numerals, original gold metal hands with luminous fill and
‘sweep’ red painted center seconds hand. Signed <b>GRUEN VERI-THIN</b>
below the 12 and <b>PRECISION</b> above the 6.<p>The domed acrylic crystal is
in excellent, clear condition with no flaws. The Brevet + case (French for patented)
is <b>solid stainless steel</b> (Gruen called this “Guildite”) and it was made by
Gruen in Switzerland. It is in excellent condition – polished on the bezel and lug
tops and brushed on the case sides. The original winding crown, unmarked is a
domed steel example in excellent order, winding and setting
smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent
condition with no wear or engravings, a screw down example that is stamped
<b>GRUEN 28506B</b>. Inside is clean and higher-grade 17 jewel movement,
signed <b>Gruen Watch Co., Precision – Seventeen 17 Jewels – Veri-Thin,
Patented, Switzerland - GXC</b>. The serial number is C141,560. The inside of the
case lid is finely engine turned stainless and stamped <I>GUILDITE – BREVET +
GRUEN WATCH CO., SWITZERLAND</I>. The word “Brevet” is French for
patented, indicating this was a Swiss patented case design. <p>This cleaned, oiled
& regulated timepiece <b>winds and sets smoothly (good rotor action) and keeps
accurate time</b>. It comes on a <b>new 16mm dark brown leather strap with
chrome steel buckle</b>. All in all very nice, post WWII Gruen 420SS caliber
timepiece that is ready to be worn and enjoyed.<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's

The <I>Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Co. of Switzerland</i> was established in Le
Sentier, Valee de Joux in <b>1833</b> by Antoine LeCoultre. After 175 years it is
still one of the most important manufacturers of ebauches (raw movements), and
has supplied mechanisms to almost all the notable producers of luxury watches,
including Vacheron & Constantin and Patek Philippe.<p>Merging with the Alsatian
watch factory of Edmond Jaeger in 1925, the name <i>Jaeger LeCoultre</i> soon
appeared on wristwatch dials. They are a watch collector’s watch and rank as
<b>investment-grade</b> timepieces.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the
following men’s vintage timepiece from the firm, a 10kt Yellow Gold filled Tank
form model that dates to the late 1930s and is in excellent condition.<p>Triplesigned for LeCoultre, it measures <b>36mm end to end and 23mm in width</b>
(24.8mm with winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-3/8 inches long by
1 inch wide, including the winding crown but appears slightly larger in person
given its narrow side bezel framing. My watchmaker David has <b>fully
serviced</b> its original 17 jewel, manual wind LeCoultre mechanism to ensure it
winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. <p>The ivory color, enamel
finished dial is in excellent condition – professionally restored to its correct status.
It features raised gold Roman numerals and hour markers, original gold metal
spear tip hands and separate seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and
‘sweep’ seconds hand. Signed <b>LeCoultre</b> below the 12 and <b>Swiss</b>
at the base of the dial.<P>The solid <b>glass</b> crystal is in mint condition. The
LeCoultre-signed, two-piece case is <b>10 Karat Yellow Gold Filled</b> and in
excellent PLUS condition – a classic Tank design with absolutely no wear or
scratches, it is pristine. The matching yellow gold finished winding crown,
unmarked (correct for late 1930s), is in excellent condition, operating smoothly.
<p>Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in <b>excellent to mint</b>
shape, free of any wear or engravings and concave along the sides. Taking a look
inside I find an original and high-grade mechanism signed <b>LeCoultre Co., Swiss
– Seventeen 17 Jewels, VXN</b> with serial number #213,802, dating it to the late
1930s. The inside case lid is stamped <I>CASED & TIMED IN U.S.A BY LECOULTRE –
10K GOLD FILLED</i> with case number below.<p>This watch has been cleaned,
oiled and regulated to ensure it <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping
accurate time</b>. It is fitted on a new and high quality <b>18mm black deBeer
hand crafted lizard (grain) calf leather band with matching color buckle</b> so
you’re all set. Much like IWC or Omega, wearing a LeCoultre watch identifies you
as someone who appreciates fine Swiss watches but doesn’t go for the biggest,
trendiest name on the market. I think that history, quality and design always
trumps what’s merely fashionable – what about you?<p><ul><li>Since 1998,

The watch firm that is now known as <i>Baume & Mericer</i> of Geneva,
Switzerland can trace its history back to 1830 when it was established as “Baume
Freres” by brothers Louis-Victor and Joseph-Célestin Baume. The Baume’s motto was “Accept only
perfection. Only manufacture watches of the highest quality.” First located in Les Bois, they would soon
open a watch case workshop in Geneva and, in 1844, an English branch “Baume& Co.” under the
direction of Celestin Baume in London. In 1880 they opened a factory in Coventry, England.<p>The firm
of “Baume & Cie” of London and Geneva distinguished itself at the national exhibitions and world fairs
that began to be organized from the second half of the 19th century onwards, in Paris (1878 and 1889),
Melbourne (1890 and 1895), Zurich and Amsterdam (1883), London (1885 and 1890) and Chicago
(1893), winning ten Grand Prix awards and seven gold medals. Following WWI the company was being
run by William Baume but he would join forces with Paul Mericer (formerly Paul Tchereditchenko), born
in Odessa to a Russian father and French mother. Operated by Piaget in the 1970s both Baume &
Mericer and Piaget are now owned by the Richemont Group.<p>I am pleased to offer for
sale the following vintage men’s timepiece from the firm, an <b>18kt Solid Yellow
Gold</b> “Baumatic” dresss model that dates to the late 1960s (ca 1968 to 1970)
and is in excellent, original condition. This is a solid weight case and it weighs 22.5
grams just in gold alone – excluding the crystal, mechanism, movement, crown,
dial, etc. This equals 8/10 of an ounce of .750 gold.<p>This is no ordinary
automatic wind watch for it features a high-grade Baume & Mericer 30 jewel
<b>Micro Rotor</b>, self-winding mechanism. That’s right folks, <b>thirty</b>
jewels. The micro rotor design was invented by Buren and it won, in 1964, the
coveted Prix D’Honneur at the Swiss National Watch Exposition. The mechanism
that won this price had 17 jewels, not 30, making this Baumatic example a rare
bird.<p>This fully signed timepiece measures <b>37.5mm lug tip to lug tip and
33mm in width</b> (35.5mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). This works
out to be 1-1/2 inches long by just over 1-1/4 in width, not including the original
winding crown. It appears a bit larger in person given its narrower bezel framing –
the dial itself is a good size. Powering this watch is the aforementioned Baume &
Mericer gold finished 30 jewel, micro rotor automatic mechanism, routinely
serviced so it winds and sets smoothly and keeps very good time.<p>The 100%
original white, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition – guaranteed
untouched since it left the factory in Switzerland over 40 years ago. It features
black enamel painted Roman numerals, original black lacquer finish Leaf-style
hands and date window (semi-quickset) at the 3 position. As this is a “dress”
watch there is no seconds hand – elegance is more important than knowing the
exact time. It is signed <b>BAUME & MERCIER GENEVE</B> below the XII and
<b>BAUMATIC</B> above the VI. It is further signed <b>SWISS MADE</B> at the
base of the dial. <p>The original solid glass crystal is in mint condition. The twopiece case is in excellent condition, crafted of <b>18 Karat Solid Yellow Gold</b>
and weighing 22.5 grams (4/5 of an ounce). It has a few small scratches upon
inspection with my loupe but I did not want to polish this case as it never has
been and looks very nice as it is. The original winding crown features a
<b>cabochon sapphire</b> tip that has a great COBALT blue color. It is in
excellent condition, winding and setting smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I
see that the 18k solid yellow gold back lid still retains the brushed, satin finish
that was applied at the factory. Again, I have not made any attempts at polishing
and it is in excellent order. Case numbers are 743267 – 37072. This case back is
held in place by four screws, one at each corner. Unscrewing these four and
removing the lid reveals a clean, gold finished mechanism with micro rotor. It is
signed <B>BAUME & MERICER – BM 12820 – 30 JEWELS, SWISS</B> . The inside
of the case back is signed <i>BAUME & MERICER GENEVE – 0.750</i> with further
gold hallmarks including the 18k gold Goddess Minerva stamp and the case
reference number <b>159</b>. This case number is also stamped on the
underside of the bezel, as shown. <p>This fine original timepiece has been
routinely serviced since purchased and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping
very good time. It is fitted on a new 18mm black deBeer Paris leather strap with
gold finished buckle. Note, no box or papers come with this watch but I can
guarantee this to be 100% original and as described – please see my eBay rating,
all as a watch seller on eBay since 1998. This watch is from a good friend’s
collection and he has requested that shipping be limited to the USA only; thank
you for your understanding. Folks, this is an investment-grade, higher end
timepiece from one of Switzerland’s best names – who would like to add this to
his or her collection?<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertomega2.jpg> Among watch
collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt of
Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces. In 1894 a new
caliber bore the name of Omega for the first time, and since then it has produced
some of the finest caliber wristwatches money can buy. Omega is my favorite
Swiss watch firm as well, combining those qualities of <b>name brand</b>
recognition, <b>high quality</b> and relative <b>value</b> that are important to
the seasoned watch collector.<p>Omega strongly reaffirmed its position as a
collector’s brand in 2007 when Antiquorum held its “Omegamania” theme sale in
Geneva, Switzerland. The prices realized vastly exceeded pre-auction estimates
and set new records for many older models. Yes folks, good vintage Omega
watches are only going UP in value.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following
ladies Omega timepiece, an elegant, mid-century modern Cocktail model that
dates to 1957. This evening watch is triple-signed for Omega and features a
spotless stainless steel case that features sculpted, Art Deco style lugs – quite
striking I think.<p>It measures <b>29.5mm lug tip to lug tip and 20mm in
width</b> (22.5mm with domed steel crown). This works out to be just over 11/8 inches lug tip to lug tip and just over ¾ of an inch wide, not counting the
winding crown. With black cord bracelet (vintage, new old stock) it measures just
over 7-1/2 inches long and I can make this shorter (or longer) for the winner. It
has been <b>fully serviced</b> by my skilled watchmaker David and its original
17 jewel, 244 caliber rose gold finished Omega mechanism winds and sets
smoothly while keeping accurate time.<p>The ivory color, matte enamel finished
dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to its correct status. Features
include raised gold Arabic numerals, a 60 minute outer track border and original
gold Leaf-style hands. Signed <b>OMEGA</b> with applied yellow gold trademark
Omega symbol below the 12 and <b>SWISS MADE</B> at the base of the
dial.<p>The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The original
Omega-signed case is a two-piece <b>solid stainless steel</b> example in
excellent PLUS condition – absolutely no wear whatsoever. Very nice
sculpted/stepped lugs on this one. The domed steel winding crown is excellent
and unmarked but appears correct for this watch and era. It winds and sets
smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I find that the snap down back lid is stainless
steel and in pristine shape, no wear or engravings ever. Inside I find an original
rose gold colored manual wind mechanism that is signed <b>Omega Watch Co.,
Swiss [Caliber] 244 (3) – Seventeen 17 Jewels</b>. The serial number is
#15,555,061 – dating the watch to ca 1957 as per Omega production records. The
inside of the Swiss made case back is nicely engine turned and signed <i>OMEGA
– STAINLESS STEEL</i> with old style Omega trademark.<p>This watch has been
<u>fully serviced</u> so you can be assured that it <b>winds and sets smoothly
while keeping very accurate time</b>. It comes fitted on <b>new old stock</b>
black cord strap with matching color fittings that will fit a wrist up to 7-1/2 inches.
I can also adjust this length for the winner – just tell me the size you need! This
mid century dress watch is understated elegance personified –I think the winner
is going to really like this little gem!<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches'

If you love the look of an Art Deco <b>inlaid enamel</b> case watch you’re going
to want to take a peek at this beauty…in excellent condition with lots of “wrist
appeal” to spare!<p> <img
src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertgruen3.jpg> In its glory years from
the 1920s through the 1940s, the <I>Gruen Watch Company of USA &
Switzerland</I> was one of the leaders in wristwatch design and quality, even
collaborating with Rolex (i.e., the Aegler movement duo-dial doctor’s watch) from
its factories in Switzerland. Prior to WWII, Gruen was better known in the USA
than Rolex, which at that time was concentrating on the British and
Commonwealth countries (hence lots of early Rolexes coming out of Australia and
the UK). Hans Wilsdorf and Gruen were friends and neighbors in Switzerland
(their factories were just yards away), and even agreed to market their watches as
<b>Rolex Gruen</b> in Europe, but the Great Depression and more urgent
matters prevented this.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage
ladies timepiece from the Gruen firm, a Guild series <i>Cartouche</i> model in
excellent condition that dates to ca 1927. This watch is <b>14kt White Gold</b>
(Reinforced with Metal), as stamped inside, a superior example of a 14k White
Gold filled case.<p>Triple-signed, it measures <b>30mm lug tip to lug tip and
17mm in width</b> (20.3mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). This works
out to be over 1-3/16 inches long by 5/8 of an inch wide, not counting the
winding crown. With bracelet it measures a total length of 7-3/4 inches, a length I
can shorten (or lengthen) for the winner at no charge. It has been <b>fully
serviced</b> by my skilled watchmaker David and its original 15 jewel, 4
adjustment <i>Gruen Guild</I>, 153 caliber, manual wind mechanism winds and
sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. <p>The silver, enamel finished dial is
in mint condition – professionally restored to its correct original status and
beautifully done. It features black enamel painted Art Nouveau style numerals,
original <b>blue steel</b> Spade-style hands and a 60 minute inner track. Signed
<b>GRUEN</B> below the 12.<p>The glass crystal is in excellent, clear condition.
The 14 Karat White Gold Filled engraved case (stamped: 14kt Gold reinforced with
metal) is in excellent condition. The highlight has to be its inlaid <b>black
enameling</b> on all sides of the dial – in perfect shape. The <u>original</u>
winding crown is of a style unique to Gruen (beaded) and features a cabochon
sapphire tip. It is in pristine shape and operates smoothly. <p>Turning the watch
over I see that the back lid features a finely engraved floral border and is in
excellent order. Inside I find a clean and higher-grade Fifteen Jewel Gruen
<I>Guild Series</I> movement, a caliber 153. This movement is signed
<b>FIFTEEN 15 JEWELS – FOUR 4 ADJ., GRUEN GUILD –SWITZERLAND, 153</b>.
The inside of the case lid is stamped <I>GRUEN – 14K GOLD REINFORCED WITH
METAL – WADSWORTH, 153 / 57</i> with case number below. The 153 is the
mechanism grade/caliber and 57 is the dial series number.<P> Now to discuss the
“reinforced with metal” stamp on this case. To quote an original Gruen pamphlet
“<I>The Gruen Reinforced Case is a 14kt. Gold-filled case, reinforced with extra
gold where there is the greatest wear – in reality two cases, one gold and one
alloy, fitted together. Thus stiffness or rigidity is given the outside, which is
sufficiently heavy to permit fine, deep hand engraving and which fully resists all
outside wear. It is therefore superior in gold value and in movement protection to
any gold-filled case – second only to a high grade, heavy, solid gold case.”</I>. So
now you know what these cases are all about and perhaps why this watch’s case
is in such fantastic shape.<p>This fully serviced Cartouche model <b>winds and
sets very smoothly while keeping very good time</b>. It is fitted on a new old
stock black cord bracelet that measures an overall length of <b>7-3/4 inches</b>.
If you would like me to adjust this shorter just let me know and I’ll custom size it
before mailing, no charge. All in all a beautiful, ready to wear “Cartouche” model
from the Roaring 20s – I think the high bidder is going to have to do the
Charleston with this one on her wrist!<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertomega2.jpg> Among watch
collectors, the Omega Watch Co. of Switzerland, a firm founded by Louis Brandt
of Biel in 1848, is one of the most renowned brands of timepieces.
Yes folks, good vintage Omega
watches are only going UP in value.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following
men's Omega timepiece, an automatic wind <i>SEAMASTER</I> “De Ville” model
in a <b>hermetic</b> design case that was manufactured ca <b>1969</b>. This
original example is in spotless original condition, <b>14kt Yellow Gold Filled</b>
and featuring a mint and untouched dial.<p>Five times signed for Omega (dial,
crystal, crown, case and mechanism), it measures <b>41mm lug tip to lug tip and
34.5mm in width</b> (37mm with Omega-signed winding crown). This works out
to be 1-5/8 inches long by just shy of 1/38 inches wide, not counting the Omega
crown. It is powered by a high quality Omega 550 Caliber, 17 jewel self-winding
mechanism, <b>fully serviced</b> by my watchmaker David just last week to
ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The 100%
original, finely brushed, silver enamel finished dial is in MINT condition,
guaranteed <b>untouched</b> since it left the factory on this watch. Features
include a 60 second outer chapter, applied gold hour markers, original gold hands
with tritium fill and ‘sweep’ gold seconds hand. Signed <b>OMEGA
AUTOMATIC</b> with applied gold trademark Omega symbol below the 12 and
<i>Seamaster <b>De Ville</b></i> above the 6. It is further signed <b>SWISS
MADE T</B> at the base of the dial, the “T” standing for the tritium in the
hands.<p>The original hardened acrylic armored crystal is in excellent, clear
condition with no flaws. This crystal has a tiny <b>Omega Symbol</b> in the
center – visible with a magnifying loupe but not with the naked eye. The hermetic
case (with removable bezel) is <b>14 Karat Yellow Gold Filled</b> and in pristine
condition – I thought it was solid gold when I first saw it. It is stamped “14K GOLD
FILLED” between the bottom lugs. The original Omega-signed gold finished
winding crown is spotless as well, winding and setting smoothly.<p>Turning the
watch over I find that the back of the case is in excellent order with no wear or
scratches, like new. This was a presentation piece and it is tastefully signed “To
Charles Manmiller for Loyal Service Glidden Durkee 1970.”<p> As this watch
requires a professional to remove the bezel, crystal and then the stem/crown to
access the mechanism I had my watchmaker David take the photos inside before
closing her up after service. The mechanism is a clean, gold finished example
signed <b>Omega Watch Co., Swiss [Caliber] 550 – Seventeen 17 Jewels,
OXG</b>. The serial number is #28,662,712 – dating the watch to ca 1969 as per
available Omega production records. The inside of the case is signed <i>OMEGA
WATCH CO. – KM6292</I> with case number below.<p>This watch has been
<u>fully serviced</u> (disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated) so you can be
assured that it <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping very accurate
time</b>. It comes fitted on <u>new and high quality 18mm black deBeer Paris
ostrich (grain) calf leather band</u> with matching gold finished buckle. Whether
it be a Seamaster or Constellation all watch lovers need to have at least one
Omega in their collection. How about this excellent and original
example?<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertbulova2.jpg> I have always
loved Bulova, an American company of great repute. It was founded by Czech
immigrant Joseph Bulova and based in New York City, where the famous
<b>Bulova Observatory</b> was located, high above a skyscraper on Fifth
Avenue. Like Gruen, it also had a factory in (Bienne) Switzerland, established in
1912 and dedicated to the production of watch components and their assembly
into jeweled movements. By 1922, the name <b>Bulova</b> would begin to
appear on watch dials across the country and the firm would be the first in the
industry in the total standardization of parts.<p>If you are looking for an excellent
Art Deco watch this is a very pretty choice, a lady's “PATRICIA” model from Bulova
that dates to 1930. I can’t imagine any watch better representing the style of the
1920s and this one is truly nice condition.<p>Triple-signed, its 14kt White Rolled
Gold Plated case measures <b>30.5mm end to end and 17mm in width</b>
(21mm with original cabochon sapphire crown). In inches this works out to be 13/16” long by 5/8” wide, not counting the winding crown and it is fitted on a
vintage cord band that makes the overall length 7-1/2 inches (I can make this
longer or shorter for the winner). It has been <b>fully serviced</b> by my Bulovatrained watchmaker David prior to auction and its original 15 jewel, manual wind
mechanism winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.<p>The sterling
silver, enamel finished dial is in mint condition – the original that has been
professionally restored to its exact original status. It features a 60 minute inner
track border, black enameled Arabic style numerals and original <b>blued
steel</b> Space-style needle tip hands. Note the finely engraved center dial –
what detail! Signed <b>BULOVA</B> below the 12 and embossed “Swiss” at the
base of the dial, below the bezel. <p> The solid <b>glass</b> crystal is in flawless
condition. The two-piece, hinged back Cut Corner design case is <b>14 Karat
Rolled Gold Plated</b> (“Bulova Quality”) and is a <I>tour de force</I> of Art
Deco <b>engraved designs</b> on the bezel AND case sides. Case condition is
excellent. The original cabochon sapphire winding crown is excellent as well,
winding and setting smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is
finely engraved with a feather design border and is free of any personal
engravings or scratches…very nice. Peeking inside via the hinged back lid I note
that the movement is protected by its own crystal and bezel, a very useful feature
of many 1920s Bulova watches (called the “Dust-Tite Protector”) that protected it
from dust and debris. The movement is a Tonneau-shaped, manual wind model
signed <b>Bulova Watch Co., [Caliber] 6AF - Fifteen 15 Jewels - Swiss</b>. There
is also an Omega symbol, actually the firm’s date code for1930. The inside of the
case lid is stamped <i>BULOVA QUALITY – PAT. JUNE 10, 1924 </I> with case
number below. Bulova Quality cases were Rolled Gold Plated as opposed to being
Gold Filled and all Bulova cases of this period were further plated (either chrome
or rhodium) on the exterior to resist scratches and wear. <p>This cleaned, oiled &
regulated watch <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time</b>. It
is fitted on a vintage old stock (thick) black cord bracelet band that makes the
overall length <b>7-1/2 inches</b> but I can adjust this smaller (or larger) for the
winner at no charge. All in all a simply a beautiful Jazz Age timepiece– give this
pretty gem a chance and she’ll be a happy ticker on your wrist!<p><ul><li>Since

The <I>Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Co. of Switzerland</i> was established in Le
Sentier, Valee de Joux in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre. After 170 years it is still one
of the most important manufacturers of ebauches (raw movements), and has
supplied mechanisms to almost all the notable producers of luxury watches,
including Vacheron & Constantin and Patek Philippe. Merging with the Alsatian
watch factory of Edmond Jaeger in 1925, the name “Jaeger LeCoultre” soon
appeared on wrist watch dials. They are a “watch collectors” watch and rank as
<I>investment-grade</I> timepieces.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the
following vintage timepiece from the firm, a men’s <b>Powermatic</b> (wind
indicator) model in <b>14kt Solid Yellow Gold</b> that dates to ca 1956 - 1957.
More specifically it is a <b>Nautilus </b> model, complete with original,
untouched dial. I am not sure of the letter designation of this Nautilus model (i.e.,
“Nautilus S”, like James Dean wore) but if anyone does know I’ll add it to my
listing.<p>Triple signed for LeCoultre (dial, case and mechanism), it measures
<b>42mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width</b> (37mm with partially
recessed, original unmarked winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-5/8
inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not including the crown. My watchmaker David
has <b>fully serviced</b> its original LeCoultre 481 caliber <u>bumper
automatic</u> mechanism, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping
accurate time.<p>The 100% original silver, enamel finished dial is in excellent
condition, guaranteed untouched since it left the factory. As you can hopefully
see, it has a nice even patina of age and looks great on the wrist. It features
applied gold hour markers and Breguet style numbers, gold metal Leaf-style
hands and a ‘sweep’ original gold metal center seconds hand. Signed
<b>LeCoultre</b> <i>Automatic</i></b> below the 12 and <b>SWISS MADE</B>
below the 6. <p>Below the 12 is the wind indicator window and it displays the
reserve time up to 40 hours. Please note that the color of this rotating disk
changes to RED when it gets down to 10 hours in time but I took the photos when
it was at 30 hours of reserve. <p>The gently domed acrylic crystal is in excellent
condition, a new old stock addition. The LeCoultre-signed case is in excellent
order, a seldom seen <b>14 Karat Solid Yellow Gold</b> with a nice “heft” to it
and even nicer than my photos convey. Finding a solid 14k gold Powermatic is
not easy, most were 10k gold filled. The winding crown, unmarked, is the correct
vintage domed example and in excellent order, operating smoothly. <p>Turning
the watch over I see that the screw-down back lid is in excellent PLUS condition
and stamped <b>14K GOLD</B>. Absolutely no wear or engravings. Inside I find a
high-grade Seventeen Jewel bumper automatic mechanism that rotates
approximately 270 degrees back and forth like an Omega. It is signed
<b>LeCoultre Co. – Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Caliber] 481 – Swiss – VXN. The serial
number is 1,258,762, dating it to ca 1956 or 1957. The inside case lid is stamped
<I>Cased & Timed in U.S.A. by LeCoultre – 14K Gold</i> with case numbers
below.<p>This watch has been disassembled, cleaned, oiled and regulated to
ensure it <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time</b>. It is fitted
on a <b>new deBeer 18mm black ostrich (grain) calf leather hand crafted
band</b> with gold finished buckle. All in all a handsome, original 14k Solid Gold
power wind watch from one of the finest of the Swiss watch makers – I think the
winner is going to be very pleased.<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches'

Imier. Winner of countless horology awards, their
wristwatches are among the <b>best in the world</b>, on par with the “big
boys” of the Swiss watch making profession including its chief rival Omega.<p>I
am very pleased to offer for sale the following vintage Longines timepiece, an
entirely ORIGINAL men’s solid stainless steel, <b>JAMBOREE</b> model that
dates to ca 1961. When I think of mid-century watch designs this is a classic –
timelessly elegant and as “in style” today as it was over half a century ago. As
noted, this is a “Jamboree” model timepiece, the first that I’ve ever owned and it
could not be more original. You will also see that the winding crown is unique,
stamped “Longines” with the trademark hourglass below.<p>Quadruple-signed,
this watch measures <b>43mm lug tip to lug tip and 35mm in width</b>
(36.5mm with partially recessed, original Longines-signed stainless crown). This
works out to be just shy of 1-3/4 inches long by 1-3/8 inches wide, not counting
the original crown. It is powered by its original 17 jewel, 280 caliber manual wind
Longines mechanism, a high quality design made <b>in-house</b> by the firm.
This movement has been <b>fully serviced</b> by my trusted watchmaker David
to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.<p>The 100%
original silver, matte enamel finished dial is in pristine condition, guaranteed
<u>untouched</u> since it left the factory half a century ago. It features a 60
second outer chapter, applied silver hour markers, original silver metal Dauphinestyle hands and original center ‘sweep seconds hand. Signed <b>LONGINES</b>
below the 12 with applied silver trademark winged hourglass and
<b><i>Jamboree</i></B> above the 6 marker. It is further signed <b>SWISS</B>
at the base of the dial.<p>The original hardened acrylic crystal in excellent
condition with no flaws. The case is a two-piece design that is <b>solid stainless
steel</b> and it is in excellent to mint condition, absolutely spotless with
elongated lugs. <p>The matching steel winding crown is signed “LONGINES” with
trademark below – something you rarely see (typically a signed Longines crown
has just the trademark winged hourglass). It is in excellent to mint condition,
operating smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I find that the stainless back lid is
in excellent PLUS condition – a snap down design with absolutely no wear or
engravings and the circular “LINK” design of the Jamboree line. It is stamped
<b>Longines – Stainless Steel – Shock Protected - Jamboree</b>. Looking inside I
find a clean and fully serviced manual wind mechanism, signed <b>Longines - 17
Jewels, Swiss - [Grade] 280, LXW</b> with serial number #11,541,980. This
number corresponds with a 1961 production date. The inside case is finely engine
turned and stamped <i>LONGINES FAB. SUISSE, SWISS MADE – ACIER
INOXYDABLE – 6883-2, 687</I>.<p>This fine watch has been cleaned, oiled and
regulated to ensure it <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate
time</b>. Comes fitted with a <b>new 18mm black lizard grain strap by deBeer
with matching chrome steel buckle</b>. All in all an ORIGINAL, higher-grade
watch from one of Switzerland’s very best…I was tempted to keep this one for
myself but I can’t keep them all – my personal favorite from this
week.<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy

<img
<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertmovado.jpg> <p>One of the
best-known watch firms in the world today, the <I>Movado Watch Co. of
Switzerland</I> took its name from the Esperanto word that translates as “Always
in Motion.” Founded by Achille Ditesheim in <b>1881</b>, he soon set up the
first factory in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and the “Movado” name first appeared in
<b>1906</b>.<p>One of the first (if not ‘the’ first) watch companies to produce a
wristwatch for men, its most famous early design was the Polyplan, followed by
military timepieces and triple date watches.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the
following vintage men’s timepiece from the Movado factory, a <b>Bumper
Automatic</b> model from ca 1954 that was also one of the first watches to have
a <u>quick-set</u> date as well. To rapidly advance the date the wearer pushes
“in” the button on the left side of the case – somewhat like triple date watches
but I have never seen a Movado like this before. Also nice is its case, fabricated
for Movado by the leading Swiss case maker <b>Francois Borgel</b> (FB).
<p>Triple-signed, its all stainless steel case measures <b>40mm lug tip to lug tip
and 33mm in width</b> (35.5mm with original, unmarked steel crown). This
works out to be just shy of 1-5/8 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not
including the crown. It is powered by its original and higher-grade 17 jewel,
<b>224A caliber</b> bumper automatic Movado mechanism that has been
<b>fully serviced</b> by my trusted watchmaker David to ensure it winds and
sets smoothly while keeping accurate time.<p>The “bumper” automatic design of
self-winding mechanisms was a precursor to the “rotor” automatic. The bumper
design has a rotor that swings in one direction until it hits a SPRING and it returns
in the other direction (where there is another spring). The rotor design swings 360
degrees in both directions with NO springs to propel the rotor back and
forth.<p>The silver, matte enamel finish dial is in excellent overall condition – the
original Movado metal dial that has been professionally restored in the recent
past. It features an incised gold “dot” 60 second outer track, raised silver hour
markers and numerals, date window at the 3 position (quickset via its “pusher” on
the left side of the case), original silver steel Lance-style hands and original
“sweep” darkened blue steel center seconds hand. Signed <b>MOVADO</b>
below the 12 in raised lettering and <b>AUTOMATIC</B> above the 6. <p>The
hardened acrylic armored crystal is in excellent, clear condition, a new addition.
The Movado-signed, Francois Borgel designed case is <b>Solid Stainless Steel </b>
and in excellent PLUS condition, a two-piece example with nicely <b>faceted
lugs</b>. The original stainless steel winding crown is a design unique to Movado
during this period, unsigned and gently domed. It is in excellent order, winding
and setting smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I see that screw-down stainless
back lid is in excellent shape, stamped <b>Stainless Steel</b>. In the center it is
engraved “Dennis Wilke 1-21-55” – suggesting that the watch was purchased
within a few months prior to this date (ca 1954). <p>Taking a look inside I find a
bumper automatic mechanism that is stamped <b>Movado Factories, 17
Seventeen Jewels, [Model?] 4861, Swiss Made, MXI</B> with caliber number
<b>C224.A</b> stamped below the balance wheel. The inside case back is finely
engine turned and stamped <i>FB PATENT + STAINLESS STEEL INAL - MOVADO
FACTORIES SWITZERLAND, FABRICATION SUISSE</I> with case numbers below.
Please note the “FB” initials for Francois Borgel, the Swiss Patent + symbol and
the Movado trademark of a hand holding a pocket watch. <p>This quick setting
date model Movado has been completely disassembled, cleaned, oiled and
regulated to ensure it <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate
time</b>. It is fitted on a <b>new 16mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard
(grain) calf leather strap with chrome steel buckle</b>, ready to be worn and
enjoyed. Folks, it has taken me 25 years to come across this unique quick change
DATE model from Movado and probably will take just as long to find another. Plus
it’s a classically styled, bumper automatic – you really can’t go
wrong!<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy

<img src=http://www.nwlink.com/~holben/advertwalty.jpg> Founded by Aaron
Dennison and E. Howard, the highly regarded <I>Waltham Watch Company of
Waltham, Mass.</I> is one of the <u>grandfathers</u> of U.S. horology, in
business from 1850 to 1959 making high quality pocket watches, clocks and
wristwatches known the world over. The company adopted the <b>American
Waltham</b> name in 1859, having already used such names as Warren, Tracy,
Appleton and Boston.<p>I am pleased to offer for sale the following vintage
men’s model from the Waltham company, a <b>14kt Solid White Gold</b> model
with <u>original box and papers</u> that dates to ca 1963. This Waltham was
produced when the firm was headquartered in Chicago, and it features a finely
engraved Florentine bezel and <b>21 Jewel</b> mechanism.<p>Triple-signed, it
measures <b>39mm lug tip to lug tip and 32.5mm in width</b> (34mm with
winding crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by1-1/4 inches
wide, not including the crown. My trusted watchmaker David has <b>fully
serviced</b> its original Waltham-signed, Twenty One jewel manual wind
mechanism and it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. <p>The
ivory color, matte finished dial is in excellent condition, professionally restored to
its correct status. It features raised silver hour markers, original silver steel
Dauphine-style hands and a cross hair design seconds dial with ‘sweep’ original
seconds hand. Signed <b>WALTHAM 21 JEWELS</B> below the 12 marker.
<p>The acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The two-piece Walthamsigned case is <b>14 Karat Solid White Gold</b> and in excellent condition,
complete with flared lugs and finely etched “Florentine” bezel. The matching and
unmarked winding crown is in excellent order as well, winding and setting
smoothly.<p>Turning the watch over I note that the back lid is in excellent PLUS
condition, absolutely no wear or engravings and stamped “14K GOLD” at one
edge. There is also a “crown” motif, indicating the case was made by the Crown
Watch Case Co.<p>Peeking inside I find a clean twenty one jewel, manual wind
movement, signed <b>WALTHAM WATCH CO., 21 TWENTY ONE JEWELS</b>. The
inside case lid is stamped <I>WALTHAM – 133407, B-130</I>. I dated the watch to
ca 1963 as the service paper included with the watch doesn’t show a zip code
with the service center addresses but the Guarantee booklet does. As zip codes
were introduced in 1963 a production date around this time makes sense.<p>This
cleaned, oiled & regulated timepiece <b>winds and sets smoothly while keeping
accurate time</b>. It comes fitted on a <b>new 18mm black deBeer Paris
handcrafted ostrich grain strap</b> with matching color buckle. <P>This watch
will ship in its <b>original black hinged display box</b> (a few nicks on the outside
top) and original Waltham Lifetime Guarantee booklet and service warranty
paper. The inside of the display box is signed “WALTHAM – AN INTERNATIONAL
PRODUCT BY WALTHAM OF CHICAGO – LIFETIME GUARANTEE ON ALL
MOVEMENT PARTS.” There is also a foil metal tag that reads “21 JEWELS – 14
KARAT GOLD”, as shown. All in all an excellent, ready to wear mid century watch
in a timeless, elegant design.<p><ul><li>Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal
