Regional Operating Committee Meeting-August 29, 2010, Medford, Oregon Attendees: Lorenzo, Regina and Don Kramer 2. Student Chapter: Rio Hondo College, Environmental and Technical Program--Go to the college and make a presentation? Who? Speak about the benefits of ASSE membership and a mentor program. August 31st to September 2nd time for possible presentation. Waiting for a response from the Board. Scott: Dominguez Hills is a possibility. Maybe get several schools together on one night? A job fair might work. Melonee will volunteer to get this going. Hector: Increase student membership by? A goal. Student task force to be headed by Hector and Guillermo 3. Scott: Each Board member should call 10 members to update and verify e-mail addresses. Hector: We need a script put together for the phone solicitations. Scott will send an EXCELL spreadsheet of members. 4. Scott: Construction Symposium at USC (Practice Specialty) $2,000 per year. We will need advanced planning to make this work. Marketing and advertising and sponsorships with vendors. We need a sub-committee for this. Perhaps a safety symposium for either general industry or construction. 5. Meetings: SPAWL Event in May 2011 with Cinco de Mayo Guillermo: Maybe an emphasis should be put on the 100th anniversary for each monthly meeting leading up to June 2011. September: Bruce Brown will speak about the Triangle Fire. Regina will check with Stevens Steakhouse for this meeting. October: Joint Technical Symposium on the 20th November: Scott will speak on the BP gulf catastrophe form his “eyes-on” perspective. December: Holiday event and toy drive. Consumer Product Safety topic. January: Another Board Planning meeting. Construction safety February: Emergency Preparedness and special student program March: Studio or Staples Center tour. Etc. April: Earthquake topic May: SPAWL meeting. (Safety Professionals in the Latino Workforce). June: Awards, installation of the new board and WISE (Women in Safety Engineering) 6. Scott: Job Line going great. Melonee: CSP Certification class. Any interest in starting one up? Jane: We need to do media announcements. Suggestions were made for Don Kramer to do. What about a Scholarship Essay Contest? We need a team of people to organize this. Perhaps make an announcement in the newsletter. Regina: Will get table top displays for meetings (?) Leadership Conference in Chicago on October 13th. Regina and Victor will attend. Board members must complete the on-line training from ASSE Scott: We need to audit our finances. Hire a CPA?
