THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – is a very old feast of the Church, celebrated universally by the 6th Century. The feast was originally celebrated in the East where it is known as the Feast of the Dormition – literally, “the falling asleep.” The earliest printed reference to the belief that Mary’s body was assumed into Heaven dates from the 4th Century in a document entitled “the falling asleep of the Holy Mother of God.” The document is written in the voice of the Apostle John, to whom Christ on the Cross had entrusted the care of His Mother, and recounts the death, laying in the tomb, and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Tradition variously places Mary’s death at Jerusalem or Ephesus, where John was living. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life is a defined dogma of the Catholic Church. On Nov 1st 1950, Pope Pius XII, exercising papal infallibility declared that it is a dogma of the Catholic Church “that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life was assumed body and soul into Heavenly glory.” As dogma, the Assumption is a required belief of all Catholics; anyone who publicly dissents from the dogma, Pope Pius declared, “has fallen away completely from the divine and Catholic Faith.” ( If you would like something published in the newsletter or if you have any comments about it, please contact me, Dave Arnold at: davidarnold@me.com or telephone 01622 734 340. ) Holy Family RC Church Holy Family Bicknor Road, Park Wood Maidstone, Kent ME15 9PS Tel: 01622 752 637 Website: www.msrcparish.org.uk Email: r.tablizo@hotmail.co.uk Parish Priest: Fr Roy Tablizo MA St Thomas of Canterbury Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – DIVINE MERCY – (cycle B) DATE Sat 15 Aug 15 HOLY FAMILY 6:00pm MASS MASS INTENTIONS Mary Reynolds RIP Sun 16 Aug 15 10:30am MASS ASSUMPTION of OUR LADY Recovery of Richard Cheeseman Mon 17 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Tue 18 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Wed 19 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Thu 20 Aug 15 9:30am MASS ST BERNARD - ABBOT Fri 21 Aug 15 9:30am MASS ST PIUS X - POPE Sat 22 Aug 15 6:00pm MASS The QUEENSHIP of MARY Sun 23 Aug 15 10:30am MASS Will James RIP Confessions – 5:00pm to 5:45pm every Saturday ST THOMAS OF CANTERBURY Sat 15 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Thu 20 Aug15 9:30am MASS Sun 16 Aug 15 9:00am MASS Fri 21 Aug15 9:30am MASS Mon 17 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Sat 22 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Tue 18 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Sun 23 Aug 15 9:00am MASS Wed 19 Aug 15 9:30am MASS Confessions after 9.30am Mass Saturday Entrance Antiphon: Glorious things are spoken of you, O Mary, who today were exalted above the choirs of Angels into eternal triumph with Christ.
