 A DAY OF RENEWAL – on Saturday 5th September at Aylesford Priory. This is
organised by Maidstone Charismatic Prayer and Praise group and has been
going for 20 years. It is a beautiful and joyful day and everyone is welcome.
It starts with the Rosary at 9.30am, after which there are periods of prayer,
praise and an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The
speaker is Derek Williams who will also lead a Healing service at 2.00pm. The
day concludes with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 4.00pm celebrated by Fr. Mark
White, Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Herne Bay.

 THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – is a very
old feast of the Church, celebrated universally by the 6th Century. The feast
was originally celebrated in the East where it is known as the Feast of the
Dormition – literally, “the falling asleep.” The earliest printed reference to the
belief that Mary’s body was assumed into Heaven dates from the 4th Century
in a document entitled “the falling asleep of the Holy Mother of God.” The
document is written in the voice of the Apostle John, to whom Christ on the
Cross had entrusted the care of His Mother, and recounts the death, laying in
the tomb, and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Tradition variously places
Mary’s death at Jerusalem or Ephesus, where John was living.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven at the end of her
earthly life is a defined dogma of the Catholic Church. On Nov 1st 1950, Pope
Pius XII, exercising papal infallibility declared that it is a dogma of the Catholic
Church “that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever Virgin Mary, having
completed the course of her earthly life was assumed body and soul into
Heavenly glory.” As dogma, the Assumption is a required belief of all Catholics;
anyone who publicly dissents from the dogma, Pope Pius declared, “has fallen
away completely from the divine and Catholic Faith.”

Merciful Like the Father (cf. Luke 6:36)With the publication of the Bull of
Indiction, Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis has launched the period of
preparation for the forthcoming extraordinary jubilee, the Jubilee of
Mercy. The Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization has been
entrusted with assisting with the arrangements for the Jubilee, and they
have set up a website which can be accessed at the following address:
www.im.va – this site also has a downloadable copy of the jubilee logo
and a description of the logo. A calendar of events has been published by
the Holy See, and it is my intention to use several of these to anchor
