Section 22: Letter of Instruction: Bob Bobcat
The purpose of this letter of instruction is to describe my final wishes. Although this is not a legallybinding document, it should be helpful regarding my estate and post-life matters.
Funeral and Burial Arrangements:
I would like to be cremated. I have no preference regarding what happens to my ashes.
I would like my service to be held at my church. I would like it kept as simple as possible; however, I
would like “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin to be played at the end of the service. Nobody should
have to spend any money on the service—no flowers, etc. If people want to make a donation to a
charity of their choice or to the church, I would appreciate that very much.
Organ Donations:
I am flexible regarding what happens to my organs. Follow any guidance from my driver’s license or my
wife, Sue Bobcat, or my children can make this decision.
Personal Property:
To make sure we do not lose any of the more valuable personal property, I would like to mention a few
items. First, my antique watch should go to Dave Brown. This should be stated in my will. Secondly,
there is my mother’s wedding ring. One jeweler once mentioned it was worth $30,000. We have it
hidden in my green tackle box on the second level of the garage in the northwest corner.
Additional Comments:
Taking Care of the Needs of Sue Bobcat
No matter the size of my estate, assuming Sue Bobcat is alive, I expect Tim and Samantha to take care of
their mother. Ideally, they will both have dinner with her on Sunday evenings. Tim, I hold you
responsible for keeping up the house and working with contractors, if needed. Samantha, as your
mother gets older, I hold you responsible for making sure she has appropriate groceries and necessary
comforts. I would like both Tim and Samantha to check in with their mother at least once a day.
The above are just guidelines. Both Tim and Samantha have a good head on their shoulders and great
hearts. So, I fully expect the two to them to work together to make me proud of how they treat their
mother.
If Sue Bobcat is deceased
If Sue Bobcat is deceased, my assets will be split 50/50. Tim and Samantha should go through my items
and decide what they want to keep. In the event they both want an item, they should have an auction
between the two of them. The winning bid will be considered the same as cash with regard to splitting
up my estate. Likewise, if only one person wants an item, Tim and Samantha should work out a fair
value. If they cannot agree on a fair value, the item should be posted on e-bay to determine fair market
value.
I fully expect Tim and Samantha to work together in a cordial manner and that no fighting will occur. If
fighting does occur, I would be truly disappointed. Likewise, I would be disappointed if Tim and
Samantha had to resort to putting something on e-bay to determine fair value.
To Sue Bobcat
While I wrote a personal letter to you, please let this part of the letter serve as guidance for everyone. If
you find the right man, I hope you get remarried. Tom and Samantha should embrace this man unless
there are obvious reasons not to do so.
You should feel guilt free to do whatever you want with whatever assets you have. Feel free to sell
anything of mine, without guilt.
Concluding Comments
While I have told you much of what is written in this letter of instruction, I am repeating myself and
putting it in writing for emphasis.
Do not mourn for me. I am in a better place. Go forward and make a difference in other people’s lives.
I am proud of my wife and my children. I love all three of them. I am blessed that I had such a great life,
great family, and great friends. So, no matter when I die, I do not regret one second of my life. I hope
all three of you will be able to say the same thing.
