DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 6339 PAY GRADE: 012 CLASS TITLE: TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR II ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is work operating a sewage treatment and/or water purification plant and performing equipment maintenance. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Operates a sewage treatment and/or water purification plant. Collects samples and performs tests including, but not limited to, dissolved oxygen, total solids, suspended solids, settleable solids, biological oxygen demand, and acid or alkaline tests. Uses equipment during testing including, but not limited to, the drying oven, PH meter, BOD incubator, refrigerator, and all apparatus, glassware, and instruments needed for mixing solids and fluids. Cleans the bar screen, grit chamber, and settling tanks as necessary. Coordinates the work of client labor groups and community service labor workers. Prepares reports as required on plant operations from the results of daily tests. Treats and disposes of sludge; adds chemicals to sewage as necessary. Operates and repairs pumps, motors, air compressors, and related equipment. Assists in the instruction of trainees. Maintains operating logs and related records. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of the principles and practices of water and waste water treatment and testing. 6339-TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR II-CS Skill in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, blowers, chlorinators, flow monitoring devices and other related equipment. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules and regulations pertaining to water treatment. Ability to use water and waste water treatment testing equipment. Ability to conduct, analyze and interpret water and waste water treatment tests. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Possession of a current operator's license, either drinking water or waste water, in accordance with Florida Statute 403.867 and two years of experience in operating sewage treatment or water purification plants.
