Stories on a string, or "Literatura de Cordel," is a Brazilian graphic and spoken word folk art form. Learn about
how the booklets are made and use printmaking techniques to make your own booklet illustrating a Brazilian folk
tale or your own story or poem. A great way to link community events and graphic arts with language arts and
storytelling. This project provides meaningful connections between the New Visual and Media Arts Standards and

The Art of Weaving

This is a hands-on art project in which you will learn how to create a weaving with recycled materials, designing
as you work. APowerPoint presentation explores the history of weaving, weaving as an art form, the Kente
Weavers in Africa, and the meaning of the various colors used in the work. Partcipants will learn how to produce
weavings made of recycled materials, including but not limited to yarn, cloth, gauze, ribbon, string, decorations,
and beads. These weavings can be made with a simple loom that you can use with your students. Hands-On

Design the Light of Your Life

Participants will design and create a 4-sided panel lamp. Using metal tooling and metal punch techniques, you
can create a work of art that is just as beautiful in the dark as it is in the light. With the lights on, you see repoussé
techniques on two of the panels. With the lights off, the light cast from the lamp comes only from the holes you
punched in the other two panels. A basic wood frame holds it all together. Hands-On Workshop Studio (2 hours)

Printmaking With PVA Glue

Participants of all levels will learn a No Ink Printmaking process using a variety of mixed-media techniques in
order to transfer images drawn on translucent mylar paper. PVA glue replaces traditional printer ink. Mixed-media
drawing materials will be utilized: crayons, colored pencils, graphite, grease pencils, and oil pastels. The elements
of art, principles of design, and mixed-media techniques are emphasized in the development of printed images.
