Job Description and Person Specification Last updated: 18 November 2015 JOB DESCRIPTION Post title: Lecturer in Economics Academic Unit/Service: Social Sciences Faculty: Social Human and Mathematical Sciences Career Pathway: Education, Research and Enterprise (ERE) *ERE category: Balanced Posts responsible to: Head of Division of Economics, Academic Unit of Social Sciences Posts responsible for: No direct supervisory responsibility Post base: Office-based Level: 5 Job purpose To undertake research in Economics and contribute to maintaining the University as an international centre of excellence for economics research; to contribute to the delivery and on-going development of teaching in Economics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To provide supervision of postgraduate research students in economics. To participate in the administration of Economics in the School of Social Sciences. Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. To undertake high quality research in economics for publication in internationally recognised economics journals; to participate in and develop innovative research projects to maintain and enhance the areas of research excellence in Economics. 40% 2. To support the teaching objectives of the School by developing course units and delivering 40% a range of teaching and assessment activities in Economics at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. To provide guidance and supervision to postgraduate students in their specialist subject area. 3. To contribute to the efficient management and administration of the School by performing personal administrative duties as allocated by the Head of School or Head of Division. 20% Internal and external relationships The postholder will be a member of School Board, the Economics Programme Board and the Economics Examination Board. New appointees will be assigned a senior colleague to guide their development and aid their integration into the school of Social sciences and the university. Research priorities will be agreed within the strategic framework of the Economics Division. Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of School or Head of Division within the context of the Economics teaching programmes. Special Requirements To attend national and international conferences for the purpose of disseminating research results. To be available to participate in residential fieldwork, in the UK or overseas, according to own area of subject specialism. A normal expectation would be of one such course per annum.
