OUR MISSION To present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church. OUR CORE VALUES Integrity, serving, teamwork, & excellence OUR MINISTRIES COACHES At the heart of FCA are coaches. Our role is to minister to them by encouraging and equipping them to know and serve Christ. FCA ministers to coaches through Bible studies, staff contacts, prayer support, discipleship and mentoring, behind the bench (a newsletter for coaches wives), resources, outreach events, national and local conventions, conference and retreats. CAMPUS The campus ministry is initiated and led by student-athletes and coaches on middle school, high school and college campuses. The programs of the campus ministry include huddles, Team Bible Studies, Chapel program, team FCA membership, One Way 2 Play-Drug Free and Special events. CAMPS Camps are a time of “inspiration and perspiration” for athletes and coaches to reach their potential by offering comprehensive athletic, spiritual and leadership training. The types of camps are sports camps, leaders camp, Coaches camp, Youth sports camp, partnership camp and Team Camp. COMMUNITY The non-school based FCA ministries reach the community through partnerships with local CHURCHES, BUSINESS, PARENTS, AND VOLUNTEERS. Theses ministries not only reach out to the community, but also allow the community to invest in athletes and coaches. Community ministries include: Stewardship ministries, adult ministries, sport specific ministries, leadership Boards, Booster Clubs, Adult Huddles, Clinics, Product and Resource Development and professional athlete ministries. FCA Campus Ministry Overview What is Campus Ministry? The Campus Ministry is initiated and led by student-athletes and coaches on middle school, high school and college campuses. The programs of the Campus Ministry include Huddles (on campus clubs, youth clubs and churches), Team Bible Studies, Assembly Programs, Chapel Programs, TeamFCA Membership, One Way 2 Play – Drug Free! program and Special Events. During our decades of campus ministry, we realize that there are several keys to FCA campus ministry: Prayer Focus – praying for God to prepare the campus Need Oriented – identify the needs of each campus Teamwork – Uniting with other co-laborers and ministries FCA Staff meeting coaches and student-athletes where they are at Understand Equal Access Slow down and do it right – complete the proper FCA paperwork Train and equip the Huddle Coaches and student leaders Providing resources FCA Leadership Camp for athletes and coaches – learning how to be a spiritual leader and a campus leader Basic strategy – (1) at least one adult (Huddle Coach) working with the Huddle, (2) free or access of resources/tools for ministry. (An independent National Survey found that these two things are essential for effective campus ministry.) FCA focuses on the campus for many reasons. FCA desires to continue to grow and expand so that we can reach more athletes for Christ for these reasons: There are 56,000 secondary schools (middle and high school) This freshman class (fall 2006) will be the largest grad class ever! 38,000 schools with 300 or more students 50% of the 56,000 are rural schools 99% of the population of your community will pass through these schools More than 80% of youth who attend church will stop going between the 7th grade and 12th grade. 29 million teenagers in public and secondary schools – 75% of them do not have faith in Christ 83% of teens maintain that moral truth depends on circumstances. Only 6% of teens believe that moral truth is absolute. FCA Campus ministry is the largest Christian campus ministry in America. We serve thousands of adult volunteers who work hands on with the students. Often we say that significant ministry begins not when the FCA staff show up on campus, but when the staff leave. Our goal is to encourage, equip and empower volunteers so that we truly give the ministry away. Therefore, it is imperative that we provide training and structure for Huddle Coaches. We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. 2. We believe that there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 3. We believe in the deity of Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory. 4. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful men (women) regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. 5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. 6. We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. 7. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. 6. The Bible is clear in teaching on sexual sin including sex outside of marriage and homosexual acts. Neither heterosexual sex outside of marriage nor any homosexual act constitute an alternative lifestyle acceptable to God. While upholding God’s standard of holiness, FCA strongly affirms God’s love and redemptive power in the individual who chooses to follow Him. FCA’s desire is to encourage individuals to trust in Jesus and turn away from any impure lifestyle. (For a more complete Sexual Policy Statement, see page 67 of this Playbook.) 1. Will you conform to the FCA’s Sexual Purity Policy? ■ Yes ■ No 2. Have you, or will you at this time commit to living a drug, alcohol and tobacco-free life? ■ Yes ■ No As an officer, I will be accountable to the other officers, Huddle Coach(es) and FCA staff. I understand that if I am found being involved in a lifestyle that does not conform to the FCA’s Sexual Purity Statement, or break my commitment to living a drug-, alcohol- and tobacco-free life, that it means that I will need to step down from my leadership position with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This does not mean that I am a bad person and that the FCA does not love me and want me involved; this is in order to protect the integrity of the ministry and to protect the ones to which we are ministering. What is one thing you take for granted? 2. Which part of your church worship service helps strengthen your faith the most? Read I John 5:1-15 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 6 This is the one who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him. 3. Judging by the standard in verse 2, how loved would you say God feels by you? 4. What would you say to a friend who has doubts that he or she is really a Christian (verse 11-12)? 5. How to play: Everyone sits in a circle. There is one person who is "it." There is an imaginary sign being passed around the circle. The person in the middle hast to catch the person who "has" the sign. Everyone has their own "sign." These signs can be simple or complicated, like a thumbs up or scratching your ear or something like that. The person who starts with the sign can pass it by doing another person's sign. The other person has to respond with his own sign to receive the "sign." This continues around the circle until the person in the middle figures out who has the sign. It sounds complicated but it really isn't and it's lots of fun to play!!! Bible Scategories Come up with about 7-10 questions that have to do with the Bible or Bible Times. Then pick a letter. Give the group 2-3 mins to answer each question using the letter for that round. After the time is up have one person start. If anyone has the same answer then they don’t get points. Whoever has an original answer that no one else has then they get a point. If someone has two words that go together that start with the same letter they get 2 points. Whoever has the most points at the end of the game wins. This can be done individually or in groups. Pictionary Divide the group into two teams. Pick a person from each team. Whisper an object or phrase to them. Once both drawer are ready they start. Whichever team guesses correctly first wins a point. Continue with different team members until the time Is up. Charades Divide the group into two teams. Pick a person from each team. Whisper an object or phrase to them. Once both actors are ready they start. Whichever team guesses correctly first wins a point. Continue with different team members until the time Is up. Remember, the actor cannot speak, they can only use gestures. Organize yourself This can be done with any subject, by birthday, by height, by hair color progression, by eye color progression all needs to be done without talking. Train wreck Make a circle with the chairs, the person without a chair will start the game. Have everyone seated, the person in the middle of the circle will state a fact like whoever has green eyes, whoever has on blue jeans, whoever owns a pet dog. (The person in the middle must match the criteria they call) The persons with those characteristics, etc. will stand up and switch seats, since there won't be a chair for everyone since the person in the middle will need a seat, the last person standing is "it". The game goes on for any amount of time. The Toilet Paper Game All you would need is a brand new roll of toilet paper. Any kind works. You go around your group telling each person to take how ever many sheets they use when they go to the bathroom. You cannot tell them what the toilet paper is for until after everyone in the group has a few sheets. After everyone has a few sheets of toilet paper, they have to write one fact about themselves on one sheet of toilet paper. For example: I take 10 sheets of toilet paper, I would have to write 10 facts about myself on each sheet of toilet paper. Like I have 3 brothers and 1 sister. To make the game more fun, have your group members write random facts that they never told anyone before or facts that don't seem like it would be their thing they like to do. Rock Paper Scissors Battle Each person finds a partner to play the first round with. Rock Paper Scissors Shoot. The person who wins goes and finds another winner. The person who loses has to follow the person they lost to around and cheer them on. This continues until there are two people left and two teams of people behind them cheering them on. Who (What) Am I? Materials needed: sheets of paper, marking pens, tape. A sheet of paper with the name of a person, place, or thing written on it (ie: 'Thomas Edison' or 'Giraffe') is attached to the back of each participant. As each name is different from another, the individual participant does NOT know what person, place, or thing is attached to his or her own back; and, therefore, the participant must mill about the room asking only yes/no questions of the other participants to try to learn who is taped to his/her back. The other participants can only answer 'yes' or 'no' to the individual's questions. Example questions the individual participant might ask are: 'am I a basketball player?' ... 'do I live in America?'... 'am I a place?'. When a participant is able to accurately guess who he/she is, the participant can take the sheet of paper off his/her back; and, can continue to mill around the room answering other participants yes/no questions until everyone has discovered who they are. A time limit can also be set if the game is taking longer than it should. Clap for the object One person leaves the room. Then the group decides what they want to the person to walk towards, touch, pick up etc. After they decide the person comes back in. The group has to stay silent but as the person walks closer to the object they clap harder, when they walk farther away they stop clapping. Candy Color This icebreaker is a simple way to help people introduce facts about themselves. It's very flexible and adaptable - and (if you have a sweet tooth) delicious too! The M&M Game goes by other names: The Skittles Game, the Candy Game, the Color Game, among other names. Setup - Pour M&M's or any other multicolor candy into a bowl. Have everyone in the group grab as much or as little as they like from the bowl. Make sure that no one eats their candy right away. Depending on the size of your group it might be best to break up into several smaller groups in order to have the time for everyone to share. How to Play - For each piece of M&M candy they took, they will have to answer a question, depending on its color. For example, you can designate: Red candy: favorite hobbies Green candy: favorite foods Yellow candy: favorite movies Orange candy: favorite places to travel Brown candy: most memorable or embarrassing moments Blue candy: wild cards (they can share question they choose) You can be creative and choose any question you think would be fitting for your group. The facilitator will then call out the color topic and everyone will go around the room sharing 1 answer per M&M. As an example: if you chose two red pieces of candy, you will have to name two of your favorite hobbies. After the individual has shared that color with the group, he/she may then eat their candy. Continue to go around the room until each color topic has been shared. Human Knot Must have an even number. If you have a big group break into smaller groups of about 8. Depending on how much time you have. Do it once everyone can talk. The second time the two “leaders” who talked the most cannot talk. The third time no one can talk People Bingo Make several bingo cards with statements about people in each space. Give a card to each person and have a race to see who can fill their card with people’s names matching the descriptions. (i,e. , a Redskins fan, drives a red Camaro, works at Walmart, etc.) Do You Love Your Neighbor? Place all the chairs in a circle before the session begins. One person starts in the middle of the circle. That person goes up to someone and says “(name), do you love your neighbor?” If the person being asked the question answers “NO”, then the people on either side of them have to switch seats with each other. While these two people are trying to switch seats, the person in the middle asking the question has to try to get in one of their seats as well. Note that the person who answered “NO” stays still while all this is going on around them. One person will be left without a seat. If the person were to answer “YES” then his/her neighbors remain in their seats. The person who said “YES” then needs to follow their answer with a statement that begins “Yes, I love my neighbor, but I would love them even more if they wore blue jeans.” Immediately everyone who has on blue jeans has to switch seats with one another. The person in the middle must try and find a seat so a new player is in the middle. This game gets very intense, but it is a fantastic game to get kids and adults laughing and having a splendid time. One of a Kind Separate students into smaller groups of 4-8, preferably in a circle configuration. Call on mature student or adult leaders to facilitate each small group through this experience. Instruct each person in your group to think of one unique thing about him or herself that no else would know and write it on a piece of paper. Collect the papers and mix them up. Read each unique thing aloud and challenge students to guess who it is about. Continue until all the facts have been guessed. Team Builders Two Truths and a Lie Two Truths and a Lie is the classic icebreaker game in which one attempts to identify which of the three statements is False. Have everyone sit in a circle. Each person prepares three statements about themselves, two of which are true and one which is a lie. In any order, the person shares the three statements to the entire group. The object of the game is to figure out which statement is a lie. The rest of the group votes on each statement, and the person reveals which one is the lie. Reaction Game Form groups of 6-12 people Have players create events and write them down on small sheets of paper. Be sure that they don't share these ideas aloud with anyone Creativity is a MUST for this game :) Here are some examples of events: Being attacked by a shark while you're fishing Hitting a home run that wins the World Series Winning the lottery Going on a first date After everyone is done writing, collect all of the papers and put them in a hat. Whithin each group, choose 3-4 people to act for each round. Players will randomly draw from the hat. Lap Sit The group will start in a circle. Every group member will turn, placing their left leg towards the inside of the circle. Everyone will take one giant step into the middle of the circle to create a tight circle. With hands on the person’s shoulders in front of you, the group will sit on each others knees. The group will need to work together to communicate. Once this has been completed, the group may wish to try to walk in this formation. This is a dynamic activity – and one that will make the group feel a great sense of accomplishment when successfully completed! Back To Back Every group member must find a partner of approximately equal height and weight, if possible. The partners will lock arms with their backs to one another. With arms remaining locked at all times, the partners will sit down on the ground, kick their legs out straight, and try to stand back up. Then groups of four will try the same thing. Then groups of eight, sixteen, and eventually, the entire group together. This is the perfect activity to begin a trust sequence. Competitors Creed and Circle of Champions Break Down
