Belmont High School PTO Meeting June 6, 2012 Present: Hope Kelly, Jane Ewing, Lynne Polcari, Carol Burt, Dave Bragg, Mariana Nacht and Mike Harvey 1. Reviewed and approved minutes from February meeting. May’s minutes were unavailable, so they will be reviewed at the fall meeting. 2. Treasurer’s report: Carol Burt reviewed the P&L and Balance sheet. As of June 5, 2012, the PTO has $23,647 available to spend. The budget was approved. 3. Discussion of the wish list presented by Dr. Harvey. Each year it has been the position of the PTO to fund a number of items off the principal’s “wish list”. There are items that fall outside of the annual budget, yet are important to Belmont High School. Dr. Harvey presented the PTO with a detailed summary of requested items, totaling $17,000. (see attached). The items requested were: AP Bio manuals, Science Ethics Course materials, AP Latin Texts, a SmartBoard, English Summer Reading books, AP Chemistry Books, English Reading Library Books, money to support a new Student Leadership Team initiative led by David Smokler and a request to fund the Health Fair. After discussion of each item and a chance for participants to ask questions, a motion was made to fully fund the wish list at a cost of $17,000 to the PTO. This motion was unanimously approved. 4. State of Officers: A slate of officers was presented for the 2012-2013 school year. There continue to be some open positions. The PTO needs a Co-President, the class connectors program needs a larger committee and the PTO needs a new FBE and school committee liaison. Louise Saidnawey agreed to work on the class connectors and Hope Kelly will help her find others to work on this program. Dave Bragg will also stay involved in some capacity. The Class connectors program will change slightly since the first day of school will now involve all grade levels, not just freshman. The committee will work with the administration over the summer to create a new plan. Lynne Polcari will do some outreach to current FBE members to find a BHS PTO liaison. A motion was made to accept the slate of officers and the slate was unanimously approved. 5. Hope and Jane made a statement of appreciation to Mike Harvey who will be leaving on June 14, 2012 to take his new position as Superintendent of the Hamilton Wenham school district. They expressed their appreciation for all he has done for the students of BHS and noted how much they had enjoyed working with him. Meeting was adjourned at 9:00 pm
