State/Collaborative: Virginia Date submitted: December 18, 2015 Submitted by: Beverly Covington Progress toward goals for current reporting period: November 2015 Invitations extended to two faculty members to work as faculty fellows November 2015 Reviewed Phase 1 states’ work plans, in preparation for preparing Virginia draft work plan. Created rough draft of document for our project. December 2015 Met with Dr. Campbell and discussed vision for the project, development of work plan, and methods of recruiting faculty fellows. Determined we would establish a steering committee that will consist of the first two chosen individuals plus at least two more, who we have plans to invite. Please describe any current challenges you are facing in meeting your FC Project goals: We weren’t able to set a meeting with the initial two fellows by the end of the year, as we had planned. However, the decision to appoint a steering committee to help with the work plan development has really shaped our vision for how to build participation, so it turns out it may have been premature to have a meeting. Our goals involve getting as many faculty members involved as possible, but we are a little challenged by the budget since there is not a lot available to provide stipends. We are thinking about other types of recognition 1 FC Progress Reports for their participation, such as awards and publicity. I will be looking to other states for ideas. Suggestions or Questions for AAC&U FC Staff: None at this time. Please update your goals for the next reporting period: Draft state work plan. Prepare for January 12th teleconference Prepare for New Orleans meeting. Establish steering committee. Examine budget to determine whether we can provide a stipend for two steering committee members to come to the New Orleans meeting. 2
