Article of the Week Grading/Rubric Articles will be assigned on Monday and will be due on Friday. On assessment weeks the total possible score will be 25. A selection of articles will be assessed each term. 10 points for completing a ‘Close Reading’ 5 points for completing ‘Vocabulary Identification’ (Challenging or Key Vocab) 10 points for completing a ‘Paragraph Response’ Close Reading: Interaction with article Points 10 Criteria Insightful and thoughtful interaction with the article (questions, inferences, comments connections, reflections). Moderate insight and interaction with article (questions, inferences, connections, comments, reflections). 8 6 Minimal insight and interaction with article. Questions and comment ideas When interacting with the text, these are some possible thoughts and comments to consider: During reading I wonder why… What caused… I think… This is similar to… What do they mean by…? This is confusing… This reminds me of… After reading This is important because… I still don’t understand… What is most interesting is… Identifies/Defines Vocabulary Words Points 5 3 2 Criteria Student identifies five or more vocabulary words throughout the article and accurately defines each of them. Student identifies three vocabulary words and accurately defines them. Student identifies a few words and may or may not define them. Response Points 9-10 7-8 4-6 1-3 Criteria Student writes a response containing the FOUR paragraphs with at least 6 complete sentences in each paragraph. The response is relevant to the article, makes good solid points, and contains the required information as defined by the “Guidelines/Expectations” Rubric. Few, if any, spelling and grammar mistakes. Student writes a response containing four paragraphs. The length of each paragraph is not 6-8 sentences and/or the paragraphs are not what is required according to the “Guidelines/Expectations” rubric. There are few grammar/spelling mistakes Student writes a few sentences in each paragraph. The response is choppy and incoherent. The response contains some of the required information as defined by the “Guidelines/Expectations. There are several speeling and grammer misteaks Student response is missing several key paragraphs and major ideas. Length is not the required expectation for each paragraph. Response is not relevant to the article. Grammar and spelling makes the response difficult to read. No response given.
