3-D or Cut Away Models

Construct a model of a building mentioned your literature circle book. For those who read,

I Am A Taxi, it could be the prison Diego lives in. For those who read Iqbal, it could be the carpet factory he worked in. You will probably have to go back to the book and look for descriptions of these places to make your model as accurate as possible. Make furniture & fixtures out of cardboard also.

Label each room or describe what happened in the room.

Accordion Book

Create an accordion book from your literature circle book. Include a cover for the book. Each page should contain a picture or drawing, accompanied by text. Book Board Game

Design and build a board game based upon the events and characters depicted in your literature circle book. You might want to cover an old game board with tagboard. Create rules and playing pieces to make your game complete. Present the game to your class, and allow them to try their hand at playing a round http://www.litcircles.org/Extension/game.html

Calendar

Create a 12 month calendar. Each month should contain an original drawing of a significant event from the story. If your story took place over the course of a year or years, try to have the picture fit the weather/climate of the month. You can print a calendar off the computer or even make your own using a template. If there is a holiday that is celebrated within the culture, include it on the calendar.

Collage

Cut out numerous pictures that cover the contents of your literature circle book. Arrange the picture on a shape that has a connection to the story. The shape could be the outline of the country your story take place in or perhaps an animal or plant, etc. The pictures should be glued on in such a way that it is impossible to see the background/tag board. There are National Geographic magazine you may use to your collage.

Comic Book or Comic Page

Make a page of comic strips which highlights the main parts of the story. Decide which events would need to be illustrated in a comic book for readers to understand the overall plot of the novel. You will need to draw, color, and plan out the words that each character will say in each comic panel. You may use a Web 2.0 tool for making your comics. Bind your final product together using yarn, ribbon, or a spiral binding machine.

Diary

Purchase a “nothing” book (a book or journal with blank pages). Take on the role of one of the characters from your book and journal and illustrate or doodle their thoughts. Cover the significant events; include a date for each entry.

Diorama

Make a diorama of a significant scene from within the story. Cover the outside of the shoebox with either paper (construction, scrapbooking or wallpaper) or paint (acrylic works best). Both the outside and inside should relate to the story. Make colored drawings for the inside (back, sides, top and bottom) of the box. The dthat it matches the location or theme of the story. Illustrate a background that fits the location of your scene. Glue these illustrations to the back and sides before putting in your diorama pieces. On an index card, give a thorough description of the scene (character, incident, etc).

Pieces (character, etc) could be make from clay or paper.

Materials: Hanger, wood dowel, String, ribbon, macramé string Paper (construction, scrapbooking, wallpaper)

Hand-turned Continuous Picture Show

With a shoebox, your own illustration, dowels or tinker toys and tape, make a continuous picture show. With the drawing paper in a horizontal or landscaped position, begin illustrating several important scenes from the story. Leave space at the top or bottom for text, several sentences which will explain what is taking place in the picture. Color each scene. Tape the illustrations together in the order in which they occurred in the story on the left and right sides of the paper. Tape the last illustration to the right dowel. Wind up the illustrations. Tape the first illustration to the left dowel.

Treasure Box

Make a box to look like a treasure chest or decorate or cover a shoebox or another sturdy box with a collage of pictures that are representative of your book’s characters, theme, or setting. Put items in the box which represent the story. For each object attach a description of the item and how it relates to the story.
