Organizes shapes in space to create balance. Kandinsky is perhaps most famous for his abstract circle paintings. But if you apply his idea to construction paper, some pretty interesting abstract results may occur. 1. Introduce project with resources and examples from Wiki page 2. Look at trees outside, or in books or on the web-Students practice drawing simple tree with branches ( simple tree with branches) 3. Students practice tearing strips of black construction paper to make tree and branchesSave for lesson with Mrs. Lange 4. Have students practice cutting circle out of scrap paper-start with square, cut off corners… ***Have ready for art teacher Art Teacher: 1. Review intro info from previous week 2. Students assemble a tree with branches from torn black paper. 3. Trunk and branches are glued to a background paper that offers a lot of contrast in color. 4. Lots of “circle leaves” are made by starting with the center circle cut from any color of paper. It is glued to another colored paper, cut out leaving an edge, and so on. The best results come from a variety of circle sizes and widths. Big, little, thick edges, thin edges – all are welcomed. 5. These circles are glued on the branches until the tree is full.
