2014 Seedlings
All plants are grown using organic methods and a potting soil mix containing 25% earthworm castings.
Tomato seedlings are grown in 3.1”X3.1” containers and are $1.50 if you pick them up at my greenhouse
along Route 220 (7737 Bedford Valley Road; email me at kreff150@gmail.com if you need additional
directions). Several other varieties of tomatoes and petunias not on this list will be available at the
greenhouse. Note: tomatoes/peppers of comparable size at Walmart or Lowes sell for ~$3.00 or more.
CUCUMBERS $0.75 each (2”x3” pot)
Homemade Pickles: Vigorous 5 foot vines with excellent disease resistance. Yields
armloads of solid, crisp pickling cucumbers. Pickle-shaped fruit are medium green
with small white spines. Can be harvested at 1 ½” to 6”. 55 days.
Spacemaster: Compact cucumber plant that can be planted in the garden or in
containers. Short, hardy vines produce lots of slender, dark green fruits 7 ½" long.
Great in salads or as is. Cucumber mosaic virus and scab resistant. Slicer. 56 days.
PEPPERS $1.50 each (3.1”x3.1”, deep pot)
Anaheim Chili: Mildly hot green-to-red pepper. Long, tapered, green-to-red
and great for stuffing. Heirloom. 80 days.
Golden California Wonder: Large, thick-walled green to yellow bell pepper. Good
flavor. Old-time standard and heirloom that dates back to 1928. 73 days.
Islander (F1): 3-lobed, medium-size, thick-fleshed peppers with a mild,
slightly sweet taste. Fruits ripen through a showy stage of violet,
yellow and orange streaks, eventually turning a rich, very dark red.
Strong, medium-tall plants yield well. 55-68 days.
Jalapeno M: Dark green, 3” long, 1” wide, popular hot pepper that
matures to red. Very productive. 73 days.
Lipstick: Medium sized, thick walled, green-to-red, sweet bell pepper.
One of the fastest ripening and best tasting sweet peppers. Plants often
become overloaded with peppers. 53 days green. 73 days red ripe.
Sweet Banana Pepper: Popular and productive heirloom that produces
lots of 6-7” long peppers. Yellow-to-bright red. 68 days.
X3R Red Knight (F1): Large, early, green-to-red pepper similar to King
Arthur but with more disease resistance. Big, blocky, thick-walled, and
turns red early. Fruity and sweet. Widely adapted. 57 green. 77 red.
SQUASH $0.75 each (2”x3” pot)
Black Beauty Zucchini: 1957 All America Selections winner and heirloom.
This early and very prolific zucchini has dark green skin and creamy white
flesh. 48 days.
Early Prolific Straightneck: Bush-like plants supply large crop of creamy
yellow-skinned fruits. 50 days.
Spaghetti Squash: Pasta like flesh makes a delicious, high fiber, low carb
pasta substitute when baked. Produces loads of oblong winter squash that
will keep until April in a cool basement. 100 days
TOMATOES $1.75 each; $1.50 if picked up at greenhouse (3.1”x3.1”, deep pot)
Brandywine OTV: Bred from an accidental cross of Yellow Brandywine and
Red Beefsteak. Considered one of the best and most productive strains of
Brandywine. Produces a large percentage of 12 oz. attractive tomatoes,
relatively free of defects. Slicer. 72 days.
Cherokee Purple: Unique heirloom plants originating in Tennessee.
Produces loads of dusky rose to purple colored, 12 oz.-1lb., beefsteak
tomatoes with deep red colors to the interior flesh and dark shoulders. A
very popular market variety because of its rich, complex and sweet flavors.
Slicer. 72 days.
Roma: Premium canner, ideal for sauce and paste. Pear-shaped scarlet fruits
are thick and meaty with few seeds. Open pollenated. Smaller determinate
type tomato. 75 days.
San Marzano: This is the standard tomato for sauce making in Italy, and is
considered by many to be the best sauce tomato in the world. Prolific
producer of 2-3 inch long plum shaped fruits. Indeterminate vine. Heirloom.
78 days.
Sun Gold (F1): Extremely productive, early ripening cherry tomato that keeps
going until frost. Ripens to golden orange with an exceptionally sweet flavor.
Highly popular and high in Vitamin C. Indeterminate vine. 57 days
Large Sun Gold F1 in 5 Inch Pot: Same as above, but started much earlier. Be the first on the
. block with ripe tomatoes! Expect tomatoes to ripen in early to mid-June when planted in a sunny
location. $5.00 per plant.
Super Sweet 100 (F1): Sweet, red cherry tomatoes bursting with flavor.
Cherry-sized fruits are produced in very large amounts on long hanging clusters

West Virginia ‘63: Famed tomato bred for disease resistance at West
Virginia University by Mannon Gallegly (pictured in photo) 51 years ago.
Produces high quality, red 6-8 ounce fruits; good for fresh slicing and
canning. Best-seller and excellent taste, yet difficult to find. 70 days.
WATERMELON $0.75 Each (2”x3” pot)
Crimson Sweet Watermelon: Old-time standard watermelon that
produces sweet, red fleshed fruits averaging 25 pounds. 88 days.
LEEKS $1.00/PER BUNCH (5 LEEKS PER BUNCH)
American Flag Leek: Standard leek variety for home gardeners. Stems average 1
1/2” inches in diameter and 8-10” in height. Delicate onion flavor. Heirloom. Sold
in groups of 5. Seedlings are similar to small onion plants. 130 days (survives into
November).
