OPPORTUNITIES
HOT OFF THE PRESS: LEVERHULME STUDENTSHIPS 2014
The Leverhulme Study Abroad Studentships support an extended
period of advanced study or research at a centre of learning in
any overseas country, with the exception of the UK and USA.
The Studentships comprise:




Basic annual maintenance allowance of £17,000
A partner allowance of £6,000 if a student is accompanied by a
dependent partner
Return air fare
Baggage allowance.
Further allowances – for example, assistance with overseas
tuition fees and essential research costs – are payable at the
Trust’s discretion.
Studentships are tenable for between 12 and 24 months, and
must begin between 1 June 2014 and 1 May 2015. Applicants
must have been resident in the UK for at least five years and
must hold an undergraduate degree. The closing date for
applications is 4pm on Monday 13 January 2014. For more

This talk describes the symptoms and possible causes of anxiety
and depression, and some ways to try to alleviate their impact on
our lives.
Wednesday 20 November: Understanding Group Thinking
This talk reflects on the benefits and disadvantages of being part
of a group, and why we may adapt ourselves to fit into different
groups.

BUSINESS AND DEGREE PLUS OPPORTUNITIES
What is Stand Out?
An awareness campaign to highlight the events taking place this
week across campus that give all students the opportunity to think
about their future, improve their employability and stand out to
employers. With events in all shapes and sizes there is something
for students of all year groups and degree disciplines. See a list of

What else?
The Stand Out concept is far more than one week of events. The
university is committed to helping you improve your employability
and stand out. The team at Careers Employability and Skills
(based in the Student Guidance Centre) work with your schools
and are always on hand to offer you advice and guidance, even if
you have no idea what you want to do or where to start. Visit the

arrange 1-to-1 guidance sessions. You will find a huge range of
employability related activities you can get involved with.
SIGN UP FOR VOLUNTEER WORKSHOPS
This workshop will showcase volunteer opportunities to students of
Queen's University Belfast and will highlight the ways in which you
can be rewarded for your volunteering through Degree Plus and

Experience a skills workshop where you will challenge yourself

THE ULSTER BANK, BELFAST FESTIVAL AT QUEEN’S
The Belfast Festival at Queen’s is a celebration of art and culture,
providing a showcase for the finest artistic talent, from your
doorstep and further afield.
The festival attracts the biggest names in the world– everyone
from Laurence Olivier to Jimi Hendrix has taken part. It’s Ireland’s
biggest festival of its kind, attracts 60, 000 people from all over the
world, and puts Belfast on the world map of artistic celebration. But
more importantly it’s a festival for the people of Belfast, to
celebrate their city and their love of the arts.

INSTITUTE FOR COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH IN THE
HUMANITIES: WINTER SCHOOL 2014
Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 January 2014. This Winter
School will address the theme of “Digital Environments” and is
aimed particularly at early career and postgraduate researchers
with an interest in digital arts and humanities. Outline details can

Breakfast Club is held every Tuesday at 10.30. The
Centre offers free coffee, tea, juice, toast, and other
breakfast treats.

Happy Hour is every Wednesday at 15.00-16.00. The
Centre offers free coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and biscuits.

Cake Club is held every Friday at 14.00. Please come
along with whatever you have rustled up and bring your
recipe to share! *There will be a special Halloween Cake
Sale Friday 1 November, keep an eye on facebook for
more info!

Postgraduate book Club this Friday: The Postgraduate
book club meet on the last Friday of every month. The
next meeting is this Friday 25 October at 3pm in the
Social Space. This month's book for discussion is 'The
Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry' by Rachel Joyce.
Come along even if you haven’t read it and want to join,
we will also be deciding next month’s book. Keep up to
date by joining the facebook page.
