You are invited to participate in the College of Arts and Humanities Honors Program.
The Arts and Humanities Honors Program provides you the opportunity for advanced
interdisciplinary studies and interaction with a community of your intellectual peers and
to work closely with a faculty mentor of your choosing toward completion of a research
or creative project. The program consists of a three-course commitment (9-10 units),
beginning with an Honors Seminar taken in the second semester of the junior year,
followed by an additional course selected by you and your mentor that will contribute to
the completion of your honors project or thesis. A three-unit Honors Symposium taken
in the second semester of your senior year serves as a culmination experience where you
polish and make a public presentation of your research or creative project.
Admission Requirements:
• Cumulative GPA of 3.5 (in last 60 units)
• Completed at least one semester at Fresno State
• A maximum 1,000-word typed personal statement of purpose explaining why
you wish to participate in the honors program.
• A substantial sample of your writing and/or creative work
• A letter of recommendation/nomination from a Fresno State faculty member
willing to serve as your mentor/adviser who can speak to your ability to
successfully complete the honors program and to assist you with the successful
completion of the honors thesis/project
• A copy of your current unofficial transcript
Applications are accepted in September for the following spring semester.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR
FACULTY MENTOR
As the student’s mentor, you and the honors student will design a 3-4
unit course of study in the student’s major that will support the
student’s honors project or thesis. These units can be selected from
existing undergraduate or graduate courses in the major, independent
study courses, or existing courses outside of the student’s major. It is
strongly recommended that students completing an honors thesis enroll
in an existing research methods course or an independent study course
that addresses this material in their major area of study.
The College of Arts and Humanities honors program encourages students
to cross traditional disciplinary boundaries through study and practicum
as well as through discussion with faculty and fellow students across the
college’s various disciplines. Honors students enjoy the many benefits of
working closely with you, their mentor, toward completion of a research
or creative project of his or her choice.
