Apply principles of unity, emphasis, balance, variety, movement, contrast, pattern, and proportion. Design, develop, and create original works of art. Work in areas of design, drawing, painting, and sculpture. Drawing Painting Sculpture Design Printmaking Art History / Art Criticism ACTIVITIES A. Drawing will be introduced through the exercises emphasizing line, value, space, texture, form, and shape using the mediums: pencil, pen & ink, colored pencil, etc. These will include: Perspective drawing Value drawing Gesture line drawing Still life drawing Contour drawing Structural exercises Textural exercises Portrait and figure drawing B. Painting will be introduced through exercises in transparent (watercolor) and opaque (tempera) painting media. 1. Color/value charts (primary, secondary, tertiary) 2. Color/value studies (complementary, analogous, triadic, etc.) 3. Brush strokes and techniques *Other painting assignments may be used to incorporate composition and design in a painting unit. C. Sculpture will be introduced through exercises form, texture, line, and color. The exercises will include: 1. Multi-media sculptures 2. Clay and possibly papier-mache D. Printmaking will be examined in the form of a mono-print. E. Art history and cultures will be introduced by means of presentations of major artists’ works and styles and individual research. Art history will also be incorporated into this course by use of the following examples: power point presentations, textbooks, computer images, posters, etc. Art appreciation and understanding will be studied through text and application with master artists'
