Glass Bottles & Shell Painting
Painting 1
Mrs. Goff
Goal: To become familiar with the skills & techniques needed to paint in
watercolor.
Artist: See Janet Fish for examples
Materials: watercolor, paper, glass bottles, shells
Procedure:
 Look at classroom examples & artist Janet Fish for
ideas/inspiration
 Answer the artist related question below: (10 Points)
1. What are 3 common characteristics of Janet Fish’s art work?
 Choose objects which follow criteria for project
 Create a sketch which meets the following rules:
1. Use the rule of thirds
2. Tape down paper to leave a white border
3. Include at least 2 transparent glass bottles & 3 shells
4. Include at least 2 edges of a napkin/towel under your objects
5. Include a background of sand or grass
6. Do not place your objects at the bottom of the page
 Once you have your final sketch drafted get it approved by Mrs. G
 Begin painting final work on 9x12 water color paper
*Fabulous! When you are all done make sure you ask your Mrs. G and/or your
peers for any suggestions or ideas to make it fully complete!

COMPOSITION:
- Objects are not all centered in the middle of the page. Used Rule of Thirds
to create an interesting & dynamic composition
- Used a variety of shapes and sizes of different objects
CRAFTSMANSHIP:
- Objects & background are painted carefully & thoughtfully with neat &
clean lines/edges
PAINTING TECHNIQUE:
- At least 8 different watercolor techniques were used:

-Painting is not too dark. Used multiple light layers of different colors to
create the FORM of the objects.
