It is expected that students will:

Examine the relationship between the use of particular image-development strategies and the intended mood
or message.
Analyse ethical and legal considerations associated with the design of images
Identify the impact of traditional and contemporary technologies on image development
Justify interpretations of and preferences for selected images
Use appropriate visual arts terminology in art criticism
Use appropriate art terminology to discuss materials, technologies, and processes.
Evaluate how content and form influence and are influenced by personal, historical, social, and cultural contexts.
Analyse the role of visual elements and principles of art and design in various art styles and movements

It is expected that students will:
•create 2-D and 3-D images to achieve specific purposes, using a variety of image sources
• create 2-D and 3-D images:
- that reflect personal contexts
- that express, defend, or challenge beliefs, values, and traditions
- that reflect historical and contemporary themes
- that reflect selected art movements
- for specific purposes
• create 2-D and 3-D images that demonstrate effective use of particular elements and principles
• manipulate selected visual elements and principles of art and design of an image to:
- achieve a specific purpose
- alter the meaning or effect of images
• demonstrate competent use of techniques specific to selected materials, technologies, and processes
• demonstrate the appropriate preparation, clean-up, care, and storage of materials and artworks in all stages of
development
• use materials, equipment, and workspace in a safe and environmentally sensitive manner

Students will manipulate
photocopies of Leonardo da
Vinci’s Mona Lisa. They will be
encouraged to rediscover the joy of
‘making’. Letting go of their inner
critic and cut, paste, draw, etc. for
the joy of it.
They will be required to hand in
their best 10 compositions.

Students will complete a realistic
drawing of a found object. They
will then simplify the image and
complete a larger than life
charcoal representation of the
object.
Line, Value
Contour means outline, and presents exterior edges of
objects. A plain contour has a clean, connected line, no
shading and emphasizes an open shell of the subject.
Line 5 WaysStudents will create a line drawing
using wire.

Illustration
They will recreate the line drawing
as a crisp ink illustration.
They will then re-create the image
on found papers or other surfaces.
They will then recreate the image as
a watercolor composition.
Finally, they will use their design on
a clay slab.
