2013 Selection Process
Manitoba Northwestern Ontario Team to the National Legion Competition and Camp
Thirty-six athletes will be selected to represent the Manitoba Northwestern Ontario Command at the National
Legion Midget and Youth Championships to be held in Langley, B.C. on August 8-13, 2013 Competition will be
August 8-11, 2013. All expenses will be paid and a uniform will be provided.
The competition is open to Youth athletes (born in 1996 or 1997) and Midget athletes (born in 1998 or later). The
maximum team size is 36 athletes of which no more than 25 can be from either Youth or Midget age group. Only
two athletes may be selected to this team in any event. However, in addition to this team, athletes may also attend
the National Competition as Open competitors at their own expense with a qualifying standard. Team members do
not require the qualifying standard.
Athletes can be selected in the following events:
Youth Males: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 110m Hurdles (91cm/36”), 300m Hurdles (84cm/33”),
2000m Steeplechase (84cm/33”), 3000m Racewalk, Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put
(5Kg), Discus (1.5 Kg), Hammer (5Kg), Javelin (700gm), Octathlon, 4 x 100m Relay, 4 X400m Relay.
Youth Females: 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m, 100m Hurdles (76cm/30”), 300m Hurdles (76cm/30”),
2000m Steeplechase, 3000m Racewalk, Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put (3Kg), Discus
(1.0 Kg), Hammer (3Kg), Javelin (500gm), Heptathlon, 4 x 100m Relay, 4 X400m Relay.
Midget Males: 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1200m, 2000m, 100m Hurdles (84cm/33”), 200m Hurdles (76cm/30”),
1500m Steeplechase (76cm/30”), 1500m Racewalk, Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put
(4Kg), Discus (1.0 Kg), Hammer (4Kg), Javelin (600gm), Pentathlon, 4 x 100m Relay, Medlay (400,200,200,800)
Relay.
Midget Females: 100m, 200m, 300m, 800m, 1200m, 2000m, 80m Hurdles (76cm/30”), 200m Hurdles (76cm/30”),
1500m Steeplechase (76cm/30”), 1500m Racewalk, Pole Vault, High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put
(3Kg), Discus (1.0 Kg), Hammer (3Kg), Javelin (500gm), Pentathlon, 4 x 100m Relay, Medlay (400,200,200,800)
Relay.
Selection criteria include:
1) Attendance at one of the Legion Athletic Camp Track and Field Camps in the International Peace
Garden during July 14 to 20, 2013.
2) Placings and performances at the Manitoba Championships. Or if unable to attend the Manitoba
Championships demonstrating equivalent or superior performances at the Legion Athletic Camp in
competition.
3) Athletes performances in differing events will be equated compared to rating scales averaged from past
National Legion performances. Seasonal best performance from sanctioned meets will be considered
when comparing between events. (See 2013 Team Selection Comparative Performance Tables

4) The ability to perform in more than one event and complete relay teams will be given weight when
performance ratings are within 2%.
5) The ability to be a cooperative, positive team member and be a good representative of the Legion
Branch and camp.
6) Effort and improvement throughout the week.
7) Athlete’s ability to grow from the experience.
8) Performance in classes.
9) Being healthy enough to perform at the National Competition and Camp.
Selection Committee may include: Coaches at the Legion Athletic Camp, a representative of the Manitoba
Northwestern Ontario Legion Command (if available) and a representative of Athletics Manitoba
(if available).
