MHP 2015 Sweet Cravings 3 of 4 2-12-15 BACKGROUNDER: Margaret Hudson Program The mission of Margaret Hudson Program is to provide comprehensive academic and family support services to help teen mothers succeed in life and parent healthy families. The overall goal of the Margaret Hudson Program (MHP) is to provide wraparound support services to keep pregnant and parenting teens in school rather than dropping out, and to reduce the incidence of subsequent teen pregnancies. We help teen mothers achieve healthy pregnancies, raise healthy infants and learn child development concepts. We teach parenting and life skills, and provide quality early childhood education. All of our programs and services are designed to prepare students to become contributing members of the community and create a more stable, nurturing and self-supporting family. Since our program began in 1968, MHP has served more than 10,000 teens and their children. We are the only multi-disciplinary nonprofit organization in Oklahoma that serves the academic and social support needs of pregnant and parenting teens. In a typical year, MHP serves approximately 160 teen girls and 70 infants and young children. MHP serves pregnant and parenting girls in grades 6-12, ages 11-19, as well as the children of our students, age 2 weeks to two years old. Our comprehensive services are provided in five core areas: education, counseling and social services, healthcare, early childhood education, and community outreach services. MHP helps teen mothers create futures for their families that are healthy, nurturing and economically secure. MHP makes a positive difference in the daily lives and futures of pregnant and parenting teens. There is no charge for pregnant and parenting teens to attend the Margaret Hudson Program. MHP’s comprehensive programs are offered on two academic campuses in partnership with Tulsa and Broken Arrow Public Schools.
