PREPARE THE WAY OF THE LORD FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT BLESSING THE ADVENT WREATH The winter months are here. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting longer. We need the light of Jesus to fill us with his warmth, love and joy. And so we gather around this wreath in preparation, anticipation and hope in his coming as God-Man. Light one purple candle. O Lord, you watch over us through darkness and light, and through each season of the heart. We praise you and thank you for your watchfulness. By the light of this wreath, we shall wait in patience for your Son. We are confident that he will give comfort to our sorrows and bring hope to our world. May praise and glory always be on our lips now and forever. Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! FAITH IN OUR FUTURE This weekend all the Diocese of Trenton announces a process called “Faith in Our Future.” Just as the diocesan endowment campaign is aimed at strengthen financially our ability to minister in years to come; which we will hear about in the summer, “Faith in Our Future” is an attempt to formulate a pastoral plan for all our parishes and ministries within our four-county diocese. This was the topic of the recent convocations for our priests and deacons. Bishop O’Connell will launch this process this First Sunday of Advent. The process will guide us in developing a plan that will effectively meet the challenges of the quickly changing demographics and trends that are occurring in our diocese. These will certainly have an impact on the life of the Church in Mercer, Burlington, Monmouth and Ocean Counties. We will be hearing a lot about this process and encourage you to pray for its success. More information will follow. OPLATKI Opłatki, the traditional Christmas Wafer, will be available the first Sunday Advent, November 28th and 29th. A basket will be placed at the St. Francis altar with the wafers. In thanksgiving for your generosity to the parish over the past year, please take one or two packages of Opłatki. No donation is required but if you would like to make a donation, please add it to your regular Sunday envelope. MARK YOUR CALENDARS Monsignor Thomas Gervasio invites you to join parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows - St. Anthony at 7 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, December 7 and 8, for a two-day Advent "MiniRetreat." The Most Reverend Harry J. Flynn, Archbishop Emeritus of Minneapolis-St. Paul, will conduct the retreat at St. Anthony Church (626 S Olden Ave, Hamilton) on Monday and at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (3816 E State St Ext, Hamilton) on Tuesday. MILL HILL HOUSE TOUR This year’s tour will take place from noon-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015. About 15-20 homes in the neighborhood will swing open their doors and invite people to come in from the cold. Our Church will be open for tours as well. ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY The Divine Mercy Altar Rosary Society will meet on Sunday, December 6th at the 8:30am Mass. The rosary will be prayed before Mass. Following Mass a meeting will take place at the parish office. A warm welcome is extended to anyone wishing to join the Alar Rosary Society -- come and see the good that the Rosarians do for our parish community. GIVING TREE Once again, we will have our “Advent Giving Tree.” Please take an angel from the tree with a particular “Christmas Wish.” All gifts must be under the tree by the weekend of December 19. Thank you to Melissa Sullivan for crafting and donating our Christmas Angel ornaments. If you have any family that you know are in need of help this Christmas Season, please call the office and let us know. Many thanks for your continued generosity, as we begin this Holy Year of Mercy. We need your help -- our guests in our weekly “Soup Kitchen” are in need of hats, gloves and scarves for the winter season. Please place these gift items under the “Advent Giving Tree.” BROADWAY IS CALLING! Our Lady of Sorrows School has a surefire idea for a fun Christmas gift! We’re organizing a NYC theatre trip to see Chicago. We have reserved Orchestra seats for the 2:30pm matinee on Saturday January 9, $110.00 per person (for bus & show; $25 extra for optional lunch). Set in the city during the roaring “jass hot” 20s, Chicago tells the story of two rival vaudevillian murderesses locked up in Cook County Jail.
