Mould is defined as a fungus that produces mycotoxins (toxic substances) which can be the source of environmental health concerns. Commonly known fungi that produce mycotoxins include Stachybotrys
Chartarum, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Fusarium, Trichoderma and Memnonilella.
Alberta Infrastructure disposes of any quantities of mould contaminated material as construction waste.

Emergency Response Notes:

The Contractor has submitted a site-specific emergency preparedness and response plan
(EPRP).

The EPRP should include provisions for spills/ releases and fire.

Handling
3.1
Contractor personnel are familiar with hazards, the use of protective equipment and clothing procedures when handling waste containing mould contaminated material as construction waste.

Mould contaminated waste materials can be contained in double bagged plastic disposal bags and appropriately labelled as per the Master
Specifications (Special Construction Division 13) for mould.

Temporary Waste Storage

Signage is posted in temporary mould storage areas. Temporary mould storage areas are secured and only accessible to authorized personnel.

As mould waste is not a dangerous goods, persons handling or transporting the waste do not require
TDG certification.

Disposal

Reportable limits
9.1
There are no reportable release quantities for mould contaminated waste material. However, notice is provided to Alberta Environment when an accidental release occurs when considered to represent a danger to public safety.
