ARREST DETAILS:
The five were arrested in Singaing Township, Mandalay, following a protest for constitutional amendment. They
were detained and were charged under Section 18 of the Peaceful Assembly and Peaceful Procession Act by Tun
Tun Naing (Police Commander, Singaing Township). Approximately 100 protestors participated in the
demonstration, however only the five leaders face charges.
The protesters were initially permitted to protest; however, because they began marching earlier than the
permitted time and selected a different route due to hot temperatures, they were charged under Sections 18 and
19.
