The supervisor will indicate when items are completed by writing in the date. Upon completion of all items, the
supervisor and the employee are to sign and date the bottom of this checklist.
Supervisors: Give copy to employee and keep original in your file for one year.

Introduce employee to department staff, frequently contacted personnel/departments, and building monitor(s).

Provide work area tour: assigned workplace and equipment, restrooms, lunch facilities, supplies, mail room.
3.
Discuss information/procedures useful to employee (work hours, rest breaks, lunch break, punching in/out,
punctuality, requesting leave, leave usage, overtime, holidays, personal holiday, compensatory time, paydays,
etc.). Discuss appropriate work attire. Discuss parking facilities/fee(s).

Explain departmental policies/procedures/organization chart.
5.
Show employee where to find information regarding university policies and procedures. (Resources: CWU
website, HR website, CWU Policies Manual, Washington Administrative Code Chapter 357 or Bargaining Unit
Collective Bargaining Agreements as appropriate, Human Resources Office, Accounting Office)
6.
Review class specification and position description. Discuss specific position duties and responsibilities,
performance expectations and employee’s role in the department.
7.
Explain performance management procedures (discuss use of the Performance Development Plan, frequency of
performance reviews; training and development suggestions).

Discuss probationary/trial service period (if applicable).
Explain that all CWU technology/equipment/furniture (telephone, e-mail, computers, desk, locker, etc.) are for
business use only and property of CWU; discuss inappropriate use of technology/ equipment/supplies/mail:

Official university stationery, secretarial services, equipment, computers, materials and support facilities,
including mail and telephone, may not be used for personal activities or outside private work.

Discuss safety regulations and policies (including CWU Hazard Communication Policy:

Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the department are located, room/building exit(s), first aid kit and fire
extinguisher; discuss building security; discuss procedure for reporting accidents to the supervisor immediately
and completing appropriate form(s).
Provide copy of or direct employee to the following: Alcohol and Other Drug Policy
(http://www.cwu.edu/resources-reports/cwup-2-40-030-alcohol-and-other-drugs) - Prohibits the
unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of alcohol and/or a controlled substance in the
university workplace; and Central’s Annual Security Report

that provides information regarding crime prevention programs, the law enforcement authority, crime statistics
and information required by law.
