Szabó Magda Memorial Competition 2014.
Dear Colleagues,
Please note that within the frames of Szabó Magda Memorial Competition, our
English pronunciation and reading competition called “A Game of Voice” will be held on the 18 th of November, 2014 for students of the second district organised by the
Szabó Magda Heritage Foundation (Szabó Magda Szellemi Örökségéért Alapítvány) and Szabó Magda Hungarian-English Bilingual Primary School. The Competition will be located on the premises of the organising primary school (1026 Budapest, Gábor
Áron utca 47.) Please read our Notice and distribute it to your colleagues.
The Competition is advertised for 4 to 8 graders of the district, in two age groups: 4-
5-6 and 7-8 graders. Individuals and teams may apply. The two categories will be awarded separately. We also welcome teams of mixed age groups. A team can be of a maximum of five people. Certainly, participants from specialised or bilingual schools and the ones from normal curriculum schools (3 English lessons a week) will be evaluated separately.
Applicants are asked to freely select an approximately 5-minute long literary text
(preferably with dialogues), the original of which was published in the English language (certainly, the English of different regions will be treated equally).
The point of the Competition is that applicants do not only read the text without mistakes and with fine pronunciation but also make the performance enjoyable – let it be like a radio play.

When selecting and reading the text, please note the following considerations:

the duration of the reading or performance cannot exceed 5 minutes

the selected text can only be by an author whose native language is English

in the case of a team performance the number of team members cannot exceed 5 people
As a condition for admission to the Competition, each applicant (team or individual) is asked to prepare a poster (minimum A/3 size, made with a technique of your own choice), related to the performed text (depicting the topic or a scene or any other creative ideas are welcome). The posters will be displayed in the school building during and after the Competition. Please write the applicants’ name and school on the back of your posters.
In order to make selection easier please find some suggested topics and texts as per age groups; but applicants do not have to select from these. Any other performance of works by authors that meet the above requirements will be accepted. www.szmalapitvany.hu
