Art Education Wattsburg Elementary Center Art Instructor: Mrs. Rachel L Berlin 4th Grade Class Time: 40 min Grading Scale: A-F Course Description: Art in Grade 4 is part of a sequential development of knowledge, concepts, and skills for the student. The course focuses upon expanding art knowledge through a variety of differentiated learning practices, experiences, observations, explorations, cultural influences, individual surroundings, art history and art production. Students concentrate on the elements of art which include: Line, Shape, Space, Texture, Form and Value. Students also work with the elements of design which include: Balance, Repetition, Contrast, Harmony, Dominance, & Unity. Students learn about different cultures, times, and art techniques. Students work collaboratively with one another and are introduced to art that surrounds them. Students are challenged to try new ideas, styles, techniques, and processes. Students learn how artists use the elements and principles of art in art work to convey ideas and feelings and students create their own art using this knowledge. Students learn about realistic and abstract art and create their own. Students are introduced to perspective drawing, detailed color theory, ancient art, sculpture, optical art, positive & negative space, depth, symmetry & asymmetry, 2-d design and 3-d design. Art in grade 4 challenges the student to take risks, feel confident, problem solve, work independently and collaboratively, seek advice, and relate art to our society and other cultures. Objectives: ~ Students will continue to learn about the elements of art. ~Students will be introduced to the elements of design. ~Students will learn about different cultures and the art created. ~Students will learn about the purpose of art around us and the role it plays in our society. ~Students learn about different art techniques. ~Students will be work with the art of sculpture through the use of paper, clay, wire and craft materials. ~ Students will take risks and challenge themselves ~Students will work with multiple mediums ~Students will produce art projects based on creativity and knowledge.
