The APT is a leading international research centre which as a primary goal strives to provide significant translational benefit to the wider community. Research projects undertaken within APT are conducted to a world class level and support local and internationally based enterprises. The APT research group has established a strong infrastructure of equipment and people in the area of processing technologies at DCU. APTs education and outreach events include seminars and courses which enable the transfer of processing technologies knowledge to the broader community. Title & brief description of PhD project (suitable for publication on web): Title: Laser machining of biocompatible bulk metallic glass for implant fabrication In this research, two types of the most widely used biocompatible metallic glasses, Zr based and Ti, will be examined to understand the effects of the laser processing parameters on the production of glassy metallic implants. Unique selling points of PhD project in DCU: DCU projects should offer something that’s not available in Brazil – specific equipment, multi-disciplinarity, aspects of structured programme, links with industry, placements, links with other research groups etc. Have all the facilities available at DCU Name & contact details for project queries, if different from PI named above: Dr. Dermot Brabazon, School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Dublin City University, Dublin 9, Ireland Please indicate the graduates of which disciplines that should apply: Physics, Materials Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Ciência sem Fronteiras / Science Without Borders Priority Area: Please indicate the specific programme priority area under which the proposed PhD project fits- choose only one (tick box): Engineering and other technological areas X Pure and Natural Sciences (e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry) Health and Biomedical Sciences Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) Aerospace Pharmaceuticals Oil, Gas and Coal Renewable Energy Minerals Biotechnology Nanotechnology and New Materials Technology of prevention and remediation of natural disasters Biodiversity and Bioprospection Marine Sciences Creative Industry New technologies in constructive engineering Please complete
