Writing Assignment- Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration Comparison
Answer the following Questions to help you write your paragraph comparison paper. Your paragraph
must flow, it cannot simply be a list of answers to these questions, but all of these questions must be
addressed in your paragraph.
1. What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis? What is its definition?
2. What is the chemical equation for cellular respiration? What is its definition?
3. How are these equations similar? Different? (Hint: Look at the reactants for one and the
products for the other)
4. Which organisms can perform photosynthesis? What do they have that other organisms don’t to
make this possible?
5. Which organisms can perform cellular respiration?
6. How do plants/photosynthetic microbes get their energy?
7. What is the final energy product of photosynthesis?
8. How do animals, fungi and non-primary producers (consumers) get their energy?
9. What are non-primary producers (consumers) able to do as a result of cellular respiration?
Scoring guide:
10/10- Student Accurately addresses all requirements for paragraph (all 9 questions are addressed and correct).
Paper is organized and comparison flows well. Minimal to no grammatical errors
8/10- student accurately addresses most of the requirements for paragraph (6 or 7 of the questions are addressed
and accurate). Some organization, some grammatical errors.
5/10- student makes an attempt to answer but has gross errors and does not meet all the requirements (very few
of the questions 1-5 are addressed). Lots of grammatical errors, no organization.
