Inaccurate or non-existent evaluation of learning objectives. The student evaluates material inconsistently and/or identifies some oversimplified conclusions without specific evidence to support them. OR Offers perspectives with minor inaccuracies related to known information. OR It is not directly clear what the student’s opinion of the website is, but it can be inferred. The student evaluates material competently. The writing is specific and direct, drawing some general conclusions, and demonstrating a basic understanding of learning objectives outlined in the Exemplary category. The student evaluates material with insight. The writing is specific and direct, drawing detailed conclusions that use quotes and evidence from the site to support them and demonstrating extensive understanding of learning objectives, including: 1. identification of the type of site 2. relevance of information 3. appearance and ease of use 4. quality of information 5. author /organization background 6. general quality /validity of outside links 7. Any cautions a reader of the site may need to be aware of like bias. 8. An clear overall opinion as to the reliability of the website. Writing may be full of numerous errors that should have been mastered at previous grade levels and/or typos. The student meets less than two of the exemplary criteria, identifies some unsupported conclusions, and/or writing shows signs of inconsistency and sloppiness between group members and responses. Proficient Student does not meet 1 or 2 of the exemplary criteria but responses show clear effort to strengthen the response and support for arguments. Exemplary Students have clearly edited and put in effort to 1. make the evaluations flow smoothly 2. organize the ideas to identify similarities that can be addressed together and reduce repetition 3. support all conclusions with specific evidence from the site. Quotes should be used for support most of the time. Check for the teacher if you think you should summarize evidence instead of quote. 4. apply grade level appropriate conventions related to capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. 5. make sure responses are of consistent quality.
