Institutional Planning and Assessment Mission/Vision/Values
As of October 2010
Our Mission is to provide leadership in the integration of planning and assessment functions to facilitate
the University of Saskatchewan to realize the vision of the Strategic Directions. Working as a team, we
provide outstanding analytical and creative support to the Provost, the President, senior university leaders
and the decision-making bodies of the University (Board of Governors, Provost’s Committee on Integrated
Planning, University Council). We strive to model exemplary practices and develop innovative approaches
and solutions to problems and issues confronting the University.
Our Vision is to support the University to be an international leader in the functions of integrated planning
and assessment.
Success for us happens when…
 We are creating exemplary practices and are looked to as international leaders in planning and
assessment.
 We are solving new problems, not working on the same problems year after year.
 The end results of our work are used in a variety of forms and are highly valued by the
University’s senior leadership and by the university community at large.
 Our planning and assessment work complements each other; key learning from assessment
activities informs future planning and plans.
 We forecast trends and create models and scenarios to support and inform the planning process
and decision-making at the highest levels of the University.
 We analyze and share information about institutional performance with the senior leadership of
the University and with all of the planning entities to inform plans and priorities.
 We are working together as a highly collaborative, engaged, passionate group of professionals,
sharing information freely and discussing implications of analyses in regular forums.
 We have strong and cohesive working relationships with all of the Vice-Presidential portfolios and
with senior leadership in colleges and administrative units.
 We see that results are achieved from the planning that we do and as articulated in the University’s
plan and planning documents.
 Contingency planning is built into the planning process and crises are kept to a minimum.
 Planning and assessment practices are highly valued and institutionalized across the campus; they
are seen as routine activities within the university community.
We value learning – for our own growth and personal development and for the institution using key
learnings and outcomes of planning and assessment functions to inform decisions and processes.
We value integrity – openness and honesty, being respectful and consistent in messages and in
conversations, being accurate and timely in the provision of advice and support, and providing reliable
information to support decisions.
We value creativity and innovation – we look for ways to innovate and we use our imaginations to explore
innovative approaches to problems facing the University.
We value excellence – in what we do and in the institution (an exemplary institution).
We value transparency – we model openness through consultation and communication in all of our
activities.
We value teamwork – we are committed to a team environment where we are helpful, cooperative and
courteous and where we build on a foundation of trust to achieve the results for which we are held
accountable.
