Summary of Role:

The Program Manager is responsible for coordinating groups of related projects. This
includes oversight of the technologies required, intellectual property, commercial
activities and competitive landscape as well ensuring all projects have suitable plans
and are well supported by Project Management.

The Program Manager is also likely to be directly responsible for selected project/s
within the program in their role of Senior Project Manager (PDN-1161).
Reporting Structure:

The Program Manager reports to VP, Project and Portfolio Management.

Roles which may report to the Program Manager include Senior Project Managers,
Project Managers and Project Coordinators for the Program
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Manager is responsible for the following activities as they relate to their
Program:








Participate in the development and implementation of Project plans
Oversee risk management process and classification of Projects
Act as first point resolution for specific projects in case of major milestones
deviations Work with R&D Directors to determine technologies required
Work with Business Development to acquire technologies and other IP required
for Program and Projects
Participate in the New Product Opportunity (NPO) process and approval and
review processes for relevant R&D Projects
Understand and manage the Intellectual Property needs for the Program
including surveillance
Work with commercial to understand the commercial needs of the program and
manage the competitive landscape for Projects
Oversee the communication of the Program objective and goals of Projects

Participate in the development of communication plans for Projects
Provide input to the development of Project Management Systems as well as
adhere to systems and processes in place
Work with Senior Project Managers, Project Managers and R&D Portfolio,
Finance and Planning Manager to ensure Project budgets are developed and
monitored
Ensure availability of highly skilled and capable Project Management support for
Projects within the program
Provide leadership for Project Managers and Project Coordinators
Participate in management of the R&D portfolio
Be a key point of contact for senior executives within R&D and across CSL on
issues relating to the Program

POSITION SPECIFICATION
Essential Qualifications/Experience:
PhD in relevant biological scientific area plus 5 years experience in Pharmaceutical
or Biotechnology company or 15 years experience in Pharmaceutical or
Biotechnology company.
An MBA or equivalent would be favourable.
Essential Skills, Knowledge & Attributes:


The role of a Program Manager is one that combines detailed knowledge of drug
development with strategic planning, coordination and people management skills.
The successful candidate must have:

Drive, energy and excitement to achieve the project vision and objectives

Ability to identify and implement innovative ideas

Strategic vision, strong customer focus and an ability to deal with rapid
change

Relevant qualifications in the biomedical sciences, and the ability to
understand the science which underpins the project

Industry experience providing a strong commercial context and excellent
understanding of biological product development

Relevant qualifications or experience in project management of
pharmaceutical R&D projects

Well developed time management and organisational skills

Good interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills

Experience and confidence in dealing with senior managers and the ability
to represent CSL externally

Good analytical and problem solving skills

Excellent leadership, team management and planning skills

Excellent communication and presentation skills
