Head Conditioning Coach/Program Assistant Department of Athletics Occidental College is accepting applications for a Head Conditioning Coach/ Program Assistant for the Department of Athletics. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits which is ideal for someone desiring to work in a Division III collegiate athletic environment. The selected candidate will have an opportunity to immerse himself/herself in various aspects of collegiate athletic administration while also providing leadership, instruction, guidance through the development and oversight of a conditioning program that helps varsity athletes maximize their performance. The nature of the position is such that a considerable amount of evening and weekend work will be necessary. The chosen candidate will work as a member of the Occidental athletic department “team” and support the mission, goals, and procedures of the department and the College. RESPONSIBILITIES: Head Conditioning Coach Responsibilities This position will provide opportunities and responsibilities in the areas of conditioning coordination that include, but are not limited to: Developing, implementing and overseeing strength and conditioning programs for the varsity athletic teams (in cooperation with varsity head coaches); creation and direction of sport-specific training techniques, focusing on speed, quickness, and agility workouts; weight room and staff supervision; equipment maintenance and upkeep, and other duties assigned by athletic administration. Providing expertise, guidance, training, and oversight in strength and conditioning for all intercollegiate athletes or in fitness-related programming for the campus community. Promoting performance enhancing strategies for varsity student athletes Assisting with marketing, planning, conducting, and assessment of campus and community strength and conditioning or fitness-related events. Program Assistant Responsibilities This position will provide opportunities and responsibilities in the areas of athletic administration that include, but are not limited to: Hiring, training, and supervision of student workers in athletics. Assisting the Athletic Administration with maintenance and care of Occidental athletic and recreational facilities and varsity team equipment, supervision of athletic contests and facilities, and assistance with a variety of athletic related programs, projects, reports, etc. Providing leadership for various internal/external operations, community partnerships, event coordination, and other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s degree preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with NSCA certification (CSCS) and previous Division III experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong interest and experience in intercollegiate athletics as well as familiarity with the NCAA and the Division III philosophy. Successful candidates must demonstrate the potential for collaborative leadership, a high degree of personal initiative, and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusiveness. In addition, all candidates must have the ability to relate effectively to student-athletes, coaches, and the College community, demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, exhibit strong time management and organizational skills, and possess proficiency with Microsoft/Mac Office programs.
