What is the Rosary? The Rosary is one of the most effective prayers against the devil and against sin and vice. While it is true that many (east and west) prayed on beads before Saint Dominic, in the tradition of the Church, the Holy Rosary as a prayer with the 15 mysteries (Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious 150 Hail Marys) were historically given to Saint Dominic by the Immaculate mother. According to tradition, the rosary was given by the Blessed Virgin herself to Saint Dominic in times of great turmoil in the church and the rise of heresy and disobedience. The Rosary is a reflection on the life of Jesus and Mary. So when the Rosary is prayed, we do not focus on the amount of prayer, but in the significance of the mysteries and prayers themselves. The prayers of the Rosary The Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
